12/9/2007 12:18 | Quality-wise I was thinking along the lines of Reiss - though with Sales of £60m, they're perhaps a bit of a mouthful. 55 stores of own brand fashion menswear and ladieswear, primarily in the UK, but also some flagship stores in UAE, NY and China. | wellyboot
12/9/2007 10:36 | Marben Alexon has 52 menswear shops and wolf is one of there labels, it is said that they are looking for between 20 and 30 million for the sale of the menswear chain. Information found on google under Alexon menswear............ | wbjunior
12/9/2007 09:52 | Hi ddl, Just idle speculation on my part really. Don't know and can see little info on how many menswear shops AXN has. However, Alexon's market cap is £129m, so I guess that they're hoping for 10s of £m for the menswear arm - which is a bit large in the context of MPH. I also floated the thought of Hardy Amies in a chat after the AGM but didn't get a positive reaction to that, so I don't think they're on the target list. Cheers, Mark | marben100
11/9/2007 17:39 | I am pretty sure that somewhere along the line that a purchase of a chain of 20-30 shops was mentioned, how many shops are Alexon selling off? Also in the finals there was mention of a "modest" purchase, so what is "modest" to Marchpole nowdays? Finance should be no problem as I reckon MPH are now cash rich. | dan de lion
11/9/2007 16:13 | Further to my last, now I re-read that statement it does look like an interesting fit as it appears we're looking at the whole menswear business: brands, shops & all - presumably allowing Alexon to focus on womenswear. Could be interesting as MPH are more traditonally focussed on menswear. Tricky thing would be price and funding. I guess this would be rather a big mouthful for MPH to swallow. | marben100
11/9/2007 16:07 | Hi ddl, I did mean a complete chain, rather than underperforming shops. AXN said this in their statement of 24th May: Menswear sales and margins are continuing to show improvement. This reflects work done to make the own-brand ranges more commercial, and to strengthen the branded offer within Envy, which is regaining credibility as a branded fashion retailer. The Board have concluded that it is an opportune time to review the options for the menswear business and Hawkpoint Partners have been appointed to undertake this review. [my bold] I don't know much about Alexon's chains/brands (I'm not a fashion expert generally). Any further thoughts? Cheers, Mark | marben100
11/9/2007 09:57 | Marben ;- I would think that mph would be looking at a complete chain of shops not the under performers that Alexon wants rid of. IMHO | dan de lion

10/9/2007 13:44 | Did you get a feeling as to wether the purchase of the retail chain was still on or not? As I indicated, they were tight lipped about it, so hard to tell. But they didn't deny it... I believe Alexon are looking at disposing of some menswear shops. Would these be a decent fit? What are your thoughts ddl? Good luck with your oil play, Lex. Cheers, Mark | marben100

09/9/2007 17:31 | FWIW (not a holder) looks like MPH has bottomed, wait & see for the next results statement, share price should drift up rather than down I feel :-) | polzeath
09/9/2007 17:28 | not a bad idea, the share price is under written by the company at 24 so shorting it would seem unwise. | nardelli

08/9/2007 12:16 | BTW, one further bit of personal research I've undertaken. I was a bit curious whether MPH's new Colombian venture would be selling to anyone other than drug lords :0). Fortunately I have a South American cousin who happened to be over here at the time. He informs me that Colombia's economy is doing very nicely thank you at the moment. Apparently the security situation there is improving and natural resources (esp oil & gas) are keeping things ticking over nicely. I remain confident that eventually all these international ventures will bear fruit - but it takes time for sales momentum to build. In the meantime, of course, money has to be ploughed into marketing to make the brands "sought after". | marben100
08/9/2007 12:07 | Thanks everyone for your kind words. Nice to feel appreciated :0). And delighted to see you back momentos. Look forward to hearing what new nuggets you can dig up for us all. Cheers! | marben100
08/9/2007 10:08 | Marben100 - that must have taken you a while to write that up - thank you! I'd like to start going to a few AGMs sometime, but I must sort out the day job first! | martinc
08/9/2007 00:16 | Marben100 Thank you. Your time and effort is much appreciated. remynapoleon | remynapoleon |
