Re: FD resignation. Agree with 'Daverw' but had a momentary thought that it may be the precursor to some bad news, undervalued acquisition etc. But correct me if I am wrong, were that the case, it would have been wise to have 'removed' the FD subsequent to any such news as a sign of having dealt with the issue, yes?

Hi FDH,

Yes, this did puzzle me a bit too - but was the implication of the Hardman research, as they said: "While Marchpole's Emanuel Ungaro, JCC and Homebody brands fall under the auspices of luxury goods Marchpole's other brands, including Greenmark shoes and its Ungaro diffusion line, are subject to the vagaries of the high street."

I'm adopting a wait-and-see approach here. I remain overweight MPH but am reluctant to add to my holding, until there is more concete evidence of post-YSL success, despite the share price making the company appear cheap right now.

Regards,

Mark

Lex - many reasons why directors leave. I wouldn't be overly concerned. We all know who is running the show.

Not normal for MPH, "He will continue in his role as Finance Director until a suitable successor is appointed." I take that as a positive, normally they would be out of the door by now.

Hi Marben. Just catching up on recent posts and in particular many thanks for sharing your research.

However I would like to query the reservations you expressed – post no 1760 14th July - that as a result of the various recent acquisitions MPH has made,

"much of MPH's post-YSL turnover will not fall within the "luxury goods" category (i.e. Greenmark and Ungaro diffusion)"

My understanding has always been that the YSL stuff MPH used to distribute was itself classed as a diffusion rather than a luxury line and that the reason YSL discontinued the license was that they wanted to operate entirely up market as a pure "luxury" brand? If I am right I cannot see what the difference is between where MPH used to be with YSL and where they now are with the various replacements. Hopefully this may allay you concerns? FDH

Faint heart never won a fair lady, great buying opportunity, if its good enough for Barclays and two Directors to increase their stakes, there lead should be followed imho.

Personally I still think we've got a bit further to fall in the short term as the break of the support that had formed in March/April was quite disappointing from a bullish perspective (ideally you want to see a series of higher lows forming so the break of a former low always raises the risk of a trend reversal). In the absence of news (always an important proviso on a smallish stock like MPH) I would anticipate that former support will now become resistance and it will come back from (at best) the low-160s to retest the recent lows. As mentioned in a previous support, we are still in a longer term uptrend so long as the trendline support (around 135ish last time I looked) holds. If that breaks it's probably back to square one again IMO. First sign that the stock was recovering its former bullishness for me would be a move above former support at 165; above 175 and we would most likely be back on for another surge to new multi-year highs. I don't think that's too likely in the short-term but as a holder would be happy to be proved wrong.

Hi Marben:-

I would reckon that MPH will have taken professional advice as to the value to put on Greenmark and it is not just a figure pulled out of thin air.

Hi ddl,

The trouble is that the fair value profit (which as you say, rightly, has to be shown to comply with IFRS) depends entirely on the £8m intangible figure put on Greenmark's "customer relationships". That looks like an arbitrary number to me.

Only time will tell how these deals work out. I am prepared to bet on MM, at least for now.

Cheers,

Mark

The fact that MPH have had to show a "fair value" profit on it`s aquisition`s in order to comply with IFRS3 shows that MM has picked up some bargains for us.

wbj:-

The sale I told you about has gone through, so I can now purchase the shares I had on T20, albeit at a slightly higher price than they are now!

taken from the thenakedtrader's web site yesterday

Marchpole has bounced strongly after recent profit taking and it remains a long-term hold.
