3 million tubes in 240 working days = 12,500 per day. In bundles of six, say 2084 bundles in 8 hours = 260 per hour or a bundle every 14 seconds. So it's feasible one guy on his own could indeed be doing it! (All very rough numbers). But it did look inefficient. Reckon to have 4% of UK market did he say? This sounds like a company that could get slaughtered if one of the existing recycling giants set up a better organized process.

Recycling is a huge growth sector. I wish MRG luck. Maybe they are much more slick than today's TV profile indicated. Hope so for their sake!

Pure coincidence that shares got bought a few days ahead of today's TV item of course :o)

the guys dropping them probably don't get paid that much, so it's much cheaper to do it manually...

gerpod.....Yep i saw that, but they were been fed in bundles of about six,
and it must be quite boring work, but they crunched 3 million last yr, and
who knows what they will crunch this yr as i wonder if they had 2 shifts
working then.

I watched this on working lunch and a chap was feeding tubes
into a machine manually. It looked very time consuming.
Reminded me of putting garden waste into a shredder.
It takes forever. Since the programme the slippery MMs have
raised the price 42%.

On Working Lunch.....(Rob on the road)....some quick points.

They processed 3m tubes last yr, employ 17 staff working 2 shifts,
plan to open another plant in the south by yr end, it is not yet law
to dispose of tubes properly but legistation due, looking to expand
into other white goods tv's fridges (cool) etc, the chairman is bald
and wears specs...:) .....and they have grown at 25% per yr since 96.

With a mkt cap of £1.632m and Charges are from about £0.15 to £0.50 per lamp plus £25 per collection, based on a minimum of 200. Storage containers with capacity for 1500 or 5000 tubes are available on monthly rental (as far as i can
gather from searching the net) and the capacity as mentioned in the snip below,
--------
The recycling of fluorescent tubes has taken place for many years in the USA and Europe. The number of fluorescent tube recyclers in the UK is growing slowly. Mercury Recycling Ltd, based in Manchester, and Lampcare ( UK ) Recycling Ltd, based in Glasgow are two companies in the UK with the technology to recycle fluorescent tubes and are currently taking spent tubes supplied by waste management companies. The extensive logistics network and large varied customer base that Lampcare has in place, allows them to uplift lamps throughout the UK and Ireland. Mercury Recycling Ltd currently reprocess 2 million tubes a year and is placing an order for a second mercury distiller with 3 times the capacity and the ability to reprocess up to 12 million tubes a year.
-------
...plus the direction in which landfill taxes are moving the company may have quite
some potential, and thats without them looking into the recycling of other products.
