11/4/2018 22:53 | Minerve, you spent many years 'arsing around' with an underperforming company called GKN. So what do you know? | gettingrichslow
11/4/2018 22:49 | bouleversee If you are 81 I would advise you to stop arsing around with Melrose/GKN stock and look at shifting your portfolio into investments that aren’t subject to IHT. AIM does have quality companies if you know what you are doing and they would provide you with the opportunity to reduce your IHT rate. As your son I would be more than happy to recommend some sensible AIM stocks with better yields and growth opportunities than Melrose. | minerve
11/4/2018 22:46 | Thanks, Minerve, I did sell a batch just before the bid, to repay a mortgage and for the shop. I'm hanging on to the rest for now, looking for a 'honeymoon boost' to maybe 250p. | meanwhile
11/4/2018 22:40 | Losos, "PS - Like Brexit+ I also abhor foul mouthed comments on here and get especially angry about disrespectful comments concerning my two lovely Newfoundland dogs." Why don't you just filter out the contributors who offend you? I did this for 2 posters around a week ago, one loud-mouth and one pest. I now only get involved in sensible discussions with the remainder. I can guess who you're referring to. He does occasionally use foul language but no worse than I hear on TV. Forget his language and listen to the product of his experience and common sense. | meanwhile
11/4/2018 22:33 | Apologies for my language lol | leadersoffice
11/4/2018 22:31 | Losos Many thanks for your helpful reply. | bouleversee
11/4/2018 22:16 | Hi MEANWHILE I am fine thanks. Hope you are too. I have reinvested my money from GKN into UK centric stocks and I am already up quite well on some of them. I know some will not believe me but that doesn't matter. I do a lot of reading and research when others are eating out, playing Scalextric or walking their dogs. That is why my performance stands a much greater chance than most. I invest more time. Personally I would just sell your Melrose stock for your son's shop and don't look back. There are some good opportunities in UK stocks at the moment too good to miss. All the best.... | minerve
11/4/2018 21:54 | bouleversee The lack of knowledge and lack of assertiveness on this thread is shocking and you have amplified it no end! Why don't you stick to your day job and let someone who knows what they are doing look after your investment for you? You will then have time to play little boy games like Scalextric or allow dogs to take your small brain for a walk. | minerve
11/4/2018 21:48 | So am I to assume I'm now to late for all cash offer unless A, the date gets extended or B, sell on the open market. I bought more recently when they dropped to £4.20. The govt has not made a decision on whether the take over needs referring | leadersoffice
11/4/2018 21:42 | bouleversee - I hold GKN (Bought recently)and have opted for the cash + MRO shares. You ask what might happen to MRO in the future, well if any of us knew the answer to that we would not be chatting here on ADVFN's forum haha. My cunning plan is to watch the share price & EPS like a hawk and keep an open mind i.e. not fall in love with them. I did hold GKN for more than 20 years, sold in 2011 after things seemed to be going wrong. I have high hopes for MRO as a British company which wants to keep GKN competitive in a world of rapidly changing technology and cheap labour overseas. It is a big aquisition so may take a tad longer than the previous ones but they have already committed to keeping the aerospace division for 5 years. Good luck with what ever you decide. PS - Like Brexit+ I also abhor foul mouthed comments on here and get especially angry about disrespectful comments concerning my two lovely Newfoundland dogs. | losos
11/4/2018 21:11 | Boule Minerve is a thoroughly unpleasant, foul mouthed individual as everyone who has disagreed with him has found out. I filtered him a while ago. | brexitplus
11/4/2018 20:55 | Minerve - And how to make life unpleasant. | bouleversee
11/4/2018 20:53 | Thanks, grahamburn. I had read it some time ago but my memory is not great these days and I had it in mind that their deadline was earlier than that. I knew for certain that my nominee broker's deadline is tonight and you can be sure that I will have ticked the relevant box on my account before midnight. As you say, the past is no guide to the future, however, and having actually done rather well on my GKN shares (up 261.53% from purchase to today's price and not all of that is thanks to the offer), I should be sorry to see those gains disappear if Melrose doesn't perform well. Their p/e ratio looks very high and the share price graph is a bit strange but no doubt there is a lot more to it than that, returns of cash etc., and the press seem quite enthusiastic so I'll hope for the best and keep my fingers crossed. | bouleversee
11/4/2018 20:36 | FFS - how to make life difficult. LOL | minerve
11/4/2018 19:59 | It would be useful for you to study the terms of the offer, but, more importantly, the Statement re the Offer issued by Melrose on 29 March which explains the ins and outs of the current status. It's not too long or complicated. However, the dates in it are the "final" dates, but any nominee broker will require your instructions "a few days prior" (they all vary) so that they can pass these on through the system. Hope that helps.... but personally would seriously urge you to get on with it. All you need to know is that an investment in Melrose a little over a decade ago has performed much better (well, phenomenally better - all that is in the Melrose documentation issued throughout the offer period) than an investment in GKN. OK, past performance is not a guide to future performance, but it does help! Edit: The reference to "legal" matters is just that - dotting the "i's" and "t's". | grahamburn
11/4/2018 19:34 | So how come I have to get my acceptance to IWeb before midnight tonight if I want to choose an option other than the basic offer (the cash plus shares one)? Once I have done that I can't sell the GKN shares unless the whole takeover is abandoned. Why should I have to commit myself while they are still arguing about important considerations? Crazy! What happens on April 19? | bouleversee
11/4/2018 19:18 | Independent today “Melrose said on Wednesday that it was still in talks over the deal: "We are continuing our discussions with all parties to enforce in law the binding undertakings we have already given to the UK Government. "We welcome scrutiny from all legitimate agencies. Melrose is a British company with the best interests of the UK at the centre of everything we do."” 19th April next important date. | brexitplus
11/4/2018 18:15 | The offer is still unconditional so I assume a further announcement due from the board so offer may be wholly unconditional early next week? | leadersoffice
11/4/2018 17:08 | Brexitplus. Thanks. I agree that would be hedging my bets and may do just that. | bouleversee
11/4/2018 17:01 | Hello Minerve. How are you keeping, my friend.? | meanwhile
11/4/2018 16:56 | Cash and 1.69x shares which gives me flexibility. But as you say, I have no GKN. Your choice. | brexitplus
11/4/2018 16:48 | That certainly is a no brainer, brexitplus. I wouldn't let it lapse. However, there are 3 options for acceptance. That's where the brain comes in. Which one were you thinking of? | bouleversee |
