I agree with Minerve & Meanwhile here, but the floodgates are open now and can't be closed. There is opportunity for everyone to be noticed and most people seem to want to take it.
I find this with City folks especially, since there's nothing else to do in the city than interact with other people.

Getting was not talking about Cheshire in general, but about Macclesfield in particular. A subject of which neither he, nor you it would seem, have any knowledge. On ADVFN, of course, ignorance is never a barrier to the formation and expression of opinion.

Perhaps the local population were getting dressed up in honour of your visit. After all it's not often that blue-blooded southern gentry brave the hazards of the north. The simple denizens of my old home, Macclesfield, are easily overwhelmed and overcome when they encounter aristocracy.

You should try putting them at their ease by complimenting them on their flat caps and clogs, or admiring their whippets. If they offer you some tripe and onions, do remember to slurp loudly to express your appreciation and always accompany it with milk stout.

We northerners are but simple folk unaccustomed to the sophisticated ways of quality such as yourself. We do of course see your rich and ancient culture as documented in TOWIE, Made in Chelsea and Eastenders, but we cannot possibly aspire to such heights of civilisation and learning for ourselves.

Getting, the reverse of the south. When at my top ranking university I regularly visited a fellow student who lived near Leeds. I noticed that people dressed up in the evenings and weekends, while in the south we dressed down.

And when I was interviewed by Shell in Holland for a research post I wore a three piece suit and was informed that they didn’t wear waistcoats. Odd.

What is the steak like??
