Anyone up for a share price prediction competition for close of play on Thursday? If you recall in the last competition B+ won and Minerve came last. I think Meanwhile was disqualified for not understanding the question.

The tension mounts ahead of Melrose results on Thursday.

- Will the rejuvenation of GKN be seen to have begun?
- Will the huge markup of Melrose's share price on the back of Nortek be seen as justified?
- Will the real reason for delaying Ergotron's sale be revealed?
- Will Melrose move into the 'dog breeding' market.
- Do the numbers matter at all or is sentiment the key to share price?
- All this, and more.

Tune in here on Thursday for in depth analysis of the results by our team of 3 experts, and hear prospects for future developments at the Company together with share price forecasts.

People in the Valleys are ok but the towns are dire.

I see Terry Smith is launching a new investment trust, Fundsmith Smithson, for companies smaller than in Fundsmith Equity. FEqity increases by an average 20% per annum. Definitely will be investing.

Just had a look on Rightmove - you are right - they are so cheap they are virtually 'free'. I went to Wrexham once, never again!!

Getting

You could probably afford half a dozen houses in Pontypridd with what you think you would spend on two!!! Ideal to rent out to students. I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t want to live there.

Meanwhile, thanks for the advice but I don't need to wait until October to buy the nuts - just had my bonus for 17/18 through and it was a good year to put it mildly. Have ordered the car as you know but can't think of anything to do with the rest - bit of a problem really - do you have any ideas? Could just blow it all in Vegas I suppose? Or maybe buy a couple of houses in Pontypridd??

Hi Losos

Thanks. Your contributions always welcome.

I’m considering how much exposure I want in technology. I’ve held Polar Capital Technology for years and Scottish Mortgage for a while. Both lots of Amazon, Google, Alibaba. Both up 80% in two years and 200% in five years. But Scottish Mortgage invests in unquoted which I like. Perhaps I’ll just sit on them.

B+ - "I’m interested in Victrex. Why did you invest in them?"

Greetings to you and all the nice people onhere :-)

I have a handful of Victrex, the reason for my buy was simply that they have a very interesting product, lots of medical, aero, and high tech manufacturing applications. I think it's called PEEK but please don't ask me what that stands for haha.

The yield is not huge, but in the nearly two years I've been 'in' have seen a modest share price rise. I think I'm right in saying they are the last part of the old ICI still quoted on LSE.

I like to support UK companies, and if they have a product I can (sort of) understand then that's good. Please DYOR just thought I would chip in haha.

Neil Woodford - has he regained his touch in investments? I have a very good friend who swore by Woodford's style 3 or 4 years ago, only to see his investments plummet.

I'll take a visit to Lloyds just to see the idiot Minerve get his comeuppance!

1.5 days to go.

I bought Victrex in 2014 when they were about 1500p. They make PEEK polymers and coatings for use in a whole variety of situations, not least medical where metal implants can degrade over time and load the patient with nasty heavy metals such as cobalt and cadmium. When I bought, there was a compelling case for their products and place in the market, its taken some time but now momentum is building and the company has doubled its share price in 4 years. Next doubling should only take two years IMHO.

I can imagine M doing his head in, gyrating around his zimmer in frustration and tapping at his keyboard in ever-increasing frenzy, haha. Couldn't happen to a nicer gibbon/ape/monkey.

For gettingdownhillslowly:

On Thursday the MRO dividend will be announced with the results. It won't be paid until late October probably, but you will then have money to spend and it might pay you to plan ahead for your intended purchase using the dividend.

Maltby's stores, on Amazon, have monkey nuts at £24.99 for a 11.3 kilo bag. We buy them for the birds and squirrels that live here.
One of them is called Squirrel Nutkin. You might know him.

A bit of perspective is needed here neutrals. The chimps do tend to get carried away with themselves, especially when a female is put in the cage. I did try to put a female in the cage once but it didn't work. The omega chimp isn't fertile, and it was having a similar affect on the other males, so much so that the female rejected the cage.

PLUS 500

-22.45% below its 52-week high of 2,076.00, set on Aug 08, 2018.

Ouch. -22.45% in a month. Hope one didn't buy on August the 8th. Are they promising to improve the business too?

It is so refreshing that Melrose promise to improve the business when all the other directors of all the other companies on the LSE do otherwise, don't you think? :)

Where is the evidence that they are improving the business?

Not a rumour, its a fact, known since April they are entering the FTSE 250, around the 200 mark. But you are right, not one for the shorters today!

Yertiz agreed. I find it hard to see how the former GKN board made such a hash of the company.

Re Plus, I believe it is rumoured to be entering the FTSE250 so trackers will be buying. Good performance so far today.

Nice!

Looking for a decent update on Thursday, no reasons so far in why it shouldn't be good. GKN Pension story is out there now, the lies and deceit delivered by the previous incumbents have been shown for what they are. (Prison for fraud would have been my solution!) Aerospace and Driveline producing the goods and contracts, Nortek the same. All round, Melrose are keeping their promise and improving businesses.

Plus 1608p as I post!!!

Professional game - I agree.

I used to watch Gloucester every week in the amateur days, 1st and 2nd teams, when the players were mostly local. The crowd knew the players and the players knew them. After the match everyone congregated in the clubhouse. Then professional, players mostly “foreigners221;, needed invitation into players club, etc. I’ve always supported Gloucester but only been to TWO professional matches at Kingsholm, and those from free tickets.

Best ever Gloucester match- vPontypool on a Wednesday night. Ponty with the famed front row and Eddie Butler. Gloucester won 14-7. Never since have I experienced such an atmosphere.

One game - ONE GAME and they sack their coach!! World's gone mad. Also shows how the professional game has spoiled rugby as it has football, pressure on to win at virtually all costs, the price of failure after ONE GAME is the big boot. Stupid.

Good for you in filtering Minerve. It's such a relief not to read the tripe from our socially and verbally challenged 'friend'.

Hi Yertiz

Agreed.

Exeter have a lot to answer for. After their trouncing Leicester have sacked their coach from immediate effect!!! Big write up for ex-Gloucester Matt Kvesic on BBC sports page.

Oh hell. I knew ‘Zimmer M’ couldn’t stay away. Anyway he’s now filtered.
