Who would invest in a company called Medusa?

Just looked at the Charts for SBM and SAR both gold miners listed on the ASX. Both are now over their 3 year highs. Compare their 3 year Charts to MML, very grim for MML holders.

Since this is Xmas and there's not a lot happening some may want to read the following as some post turkey consumption reading material:

its from Doug Casey. I don't always agree with his politics, but from a market assessment / analysis perspective he's usually pretty spot on IMO.

to sum up, MML could either go under in time or might eventually recover but it could take years . It has shown signs of bottoming in last year but always a false alarm .

I note you said "GD as non-Exec Chair would bring shrieks of delight here"

RG confirmed that GD has ill health but did not give any details.
By saying "he will be missed in MML" indicated that he will not be taking the position of non-Exec Chair.

On the other hand Best Wishes for the Season to everyone on I hope 2016 brings better fortune with MML.

Atlantic, no entity can create a four year downtrend. Every commodity is down. Gold if anything has been sticky downwards. Look at the precipitous collapse in Oil. Was that manipulated? The libor scandals were intraday shenanigans where traders were skimming a few per cent here and there. Manipulations occur to the upside as well as the downside - traders don't care as long as they make their bonuses. There have been no prosecutions in the gold market I note.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your thoughts too. There are a number of scenarios that may be being played out behind the closed doors. RG is certainly more of a global-thinker/actor than the remaining Board members, so personally I would doubt a combined COO/CEO role would suit him, but only time will tell.

In terms of remuneration the last AR makes eye-watering reading. GD was paid US$625k pa, and RG is paid US$545k pa (both pro-rata) so there seems to be enough in the coffers to reward RG going forward, and pay a respectable salary (in a suppressed HR market) to an incoming COO, and make a 15% CEO/COO saving to boot!

Personally I have a strong hunch that there are some Board issues to be put to bed before the CEO appointment, and that might be the tough part of a negotiation? Of course, I might be guilty of wishful thinking – a Board incorporating RG as CEO, RD as an NED and, ideally, GD as non-Exec Chair would bring shrieks of delight here, and a massive share price rise in Aus. Maybe I am getting carried away with all the Santa fantasy stuff!

I think we differ on our perspective of the state of MML’s finances. I see it as a strongly cash generative business (even at this PoG!) which is prudently paying-down debts and payables and imminently accumulating cash at what RG targets to be US$5m p.qtr.

Lastly, the recent discussion on potential restructuring. It has been said on this BB (and also by GD) that narrow-vein miners are unlikely bid targets. HOWEVER, if RG did leave as a result of a silly spat I can foresee a low-ball bid emerging, based on his intimate knowledge of the value intrinsic in Co-O and the other properties. Another thought is that if we shortly have a very positive Bananghilig update, could we see the open-pit properties being sold-off to an experienced operator in the Phillipines?

Happy Christmas to you too; 2016 will certainly be very interesting! tightfist

atlantic57 - yes and probably the real fundamentals are only known to the insiders and their mates . BUT most other aussie gold stocks are bombed out too and maybe
some will recover in time .

arja mml may well have lost credibility as the fundamental position does not 'appear to justify a fall from 5.50 sterling to circa 14 pence.

atlantic- the big news about the banks and LIBOR shows that and maybe something similar in gold . probably golf will take off when we least expect it and certainly showing a little resilience of late . But some gold stocks and their management have lost credibility and may not recover to any extent .

I also find these ignorant comments about manipulation nauseating.Four years of declining prices and you'd think think they would give up. No one is bigger than the market and that includes the gold bugs. I fear they won't be washed out until gold reaches $800 late next year.

Tightfist. Interesting thoughts.

I don't personally think RG is in drawn out tough negotiations over payment, contract terms, etc. He would know better than most the tenuous state of Medusa's finances at the present time and imo would be unlikely to be making borderline or unacceptable demands.

As you suggested some time ago the hold up may be more about a replacement for his COO position than CEO.

Alternatively, maybe he can do both jobs - CEO and COO combined after all the work put in by GD and himself over the past 15 months or so getting the company affairs and mine largely sorted out. Maybe RG was given to year end to finish up his full time commitment to the mine that he started in September last year and from January he works 50% as CEO and 50% as COO?

A likely clean start date for new appointment/s now would be 1/1/2016 in which case the announcement should be made on or before then.

Finally Merry Xmas to you and everyone here who is still reading the board or holding and thanks especially to Chip for his time and input this past year.

Hi Speedsgh,

That's a bit of a tease. What scenario(s) do you have in mind in your suspicions? They don't have to be pessimistic ones for MML not to be around in 12 months' time!

Cheers, tightfist

Call me a pessimist but I have a nagging suspicion that MML may not be around in its current form this time next year.

On that note I shall wish you all a Merry Xmas & a happy New Year. Hope you have a good one.

Hi Chip, thanks for your comments; I trust that you bounce-back ready for Xmas and beyond.

To the regular MML posters, sending you all my very best wishes over the Holiday season. As someone commented recently, this is a very friendly BB, sharing info from many perspectives - let's keep it the way in 2016, whilst we enjoy watching MML soar from the depths of 34c!

Cheers as ever, tightfist

TF,

Some useful observations in that post - thank you!

I am a 'bit under the weather' at the moment and I am trying to switch into 'family mode' for Christmas as of now. So I want to wish everyone a really fine Christmas holiday and a prosperous New Year.

Kind regards
Chip
