It Seems that McColl's has really helped Morrisons LFL figures that came out today as much of the rise was due to their whole sale division, much of which is the sale of Safeway foods to McColl's.

Ah, ok. Ta. :-)

I was hoping for something a bit more evidentially supported.

Fwiw, I'm not holding and don't feel confident enough to buy, even down at 55p-ish.

Will watch out for another update.

Good luck!

This share is almost acting as though McColl's is about to go bust when even with its profits warning is still making more money per pound of turn over then Sainsbury's is.

I have bought a few this AM. Was hoping for 52 but yesterday's low at 56 may have been IT. Too close to call.....52 or 56 so hedged my bets a bit here.

They are not buys but trades. What matters is share is in downtrend and sellers are willing to sell lower (any buyers not willing to step up). Until that changes it remains an avoid for me

I've heard there is going to be an inquest into the high pressure chocolate selling tactics when you are at the counter.
It's disgraceful, tempting a man at lunchtime like that!!

"Can I interest you in some of our confectionery that's been sitting here in the sun all day?"

"Hmmmmm, Tempting!
Is the dust on it extra?!"

Interesting to see what the analysts are forecasting for McColl's dividend going forward.

For the FY18 declining from 10.3p to 7.2p, a decline of around 30% and putting McColl's on a current yield of 11%.

For the FY19 a dividend of 7.5p.

I've had the pleasure of visiting a McColls to purchase just a can of Tango, and the very polite assistant with blue hair was dying to sell me some "on offer" chocolate bar.It smacked of complete desperation.I've witnessed the same chocolate bar high pressure selling tactic at WH SMITHS which is also a retailer that's so lost its way and is rapidly heading for the final exit.

Things like this do not help:

McColl's fined £100,000 after multiple food hygiene offences at Harlow store, the company will have to pay Harlow Council’s costs of around £17,000.

The multiple food hygiene offences included 'filthy' ovens and a lack of proper hand washing facilities for staff.

During a routine inspection of the Fishers Hatch shop multiple food hygiene infringements were found that could have lead to food poisoning.

In the inspection in July 2017, the bain-marie used for heating hot dogs and the oven used for baking pies, pastries, bread and other food for public sale were both in a ‘filthy’ condition.

Both were covered in grease and full of burnt and greasy food deposits and the bottom of the bain-marie was full of greasy water.

Additionally the base of the milk fridge was found to be encrusted with dried milk residue.

Also refrigerated food such as chicken wraps, sandwiches, sausage rolls and cartons or fruit juice were being stored at a temperature in excess of the legal maximum of eight degrees.

This control of temperature is described as being ‘essentialR17; in restricting the growth in numbers of food poisoning bacteria.

At the time of the inspection by a Senior Environmental Health Officer from Harlow Council, the store was issued with a food hygiene rating of zero, the lowest possible rating.

In passing sentence the judge determined that the business was highly culpable, largely because the company did not sufficiently address similar failings that had been identified by the environmental health officer in May 2016, following a complaint made by a member of the public.

The judge noted that Harlow Council had made significant efforts to work with the company to secure compliance and that the remedial action needed was neither complicated nor costly to implement.

The problem I see with many of McColl's convenience stores is they're rather on the small side.

The Coop basically sold their smaller stores to McColl's which were about 10% bigger then the average stores McColl's already had.

I hope McColl's continue to close their newsagents because as far as I can see newsagents have had their day.

I think McColl's is trading at silly prices, they are profitable, per pound of turn over making more money then Sainsbury's and next year are expected to make around £3mln more profit then they are expecting to make this year.
