Just been talking to my builder and he has a cast-iron solution. Re-open the pubs now with 'social distancing' limiting them to 1/3 capacity, but restrict access to those prepared to drink 3x as much......

Sounds foolproof to me.

Wetherspoons have outlined plans to get back to business. Love him or loathe him, Tim Martin still has the entrepreneurial spark and is very proactively urging government to sanction reopening where safety levels can be met. Still a lot of lose ends but at least he's trying. I think he might have to forget standing/paying at the bar, it's open invitation for idiots to cluster.

Marstons need to get their act together, and publicise it. They need to help tenants massively too, not just the managed estate.

What does marstons taste like?...

The government will want people to get into the pub and get hammered as soon as possible. When people have had a marstons they want to spend more which therefore leads onto more tax to get the tax deficit back. Borris will be keen to push people back into pubs as soon as possible

"honestly I didn't know the list was that long..."

Aye, from 6 (Six!) breweries! The love of brewing is clearly stronger than the quest for efficiency and return on capital. Good luck if you think brewing is going to get them out of this hole.

Hi diku,

I was surprised at the range, myself. Brewing was about 1/3rd of turnover last year and contributed 1/6th of profit.
Not spectacular, but useful income; and welcome diversification atm, whilst keeping your loyal customers happy...
