A small business rate reduction would help save high streets and benefit nationwide retailers by helping to secure foot flow to their shops. Hopefully this is a start in the right direction. Long overdue.

Chancellor should consider cutting VAT on clothes...give high street cloth retailers a boost...and tax the tech online retailers...

For small businesses only, not for the nationwide retailers.

Mass Debenhams store closures pile the pressure on Chancellor to cut business rates to help save the British High Street

Loganair - you must be very posh not having any charity shops. My little town is full of these 'recycling emporiums'. JDW seems to be popular though. Always full.

I do find that hard to believe.I went into the Norwich City M&S store this week and loved their fresh general layout for an older store and discovered they had 2 restaurants.Their salads and fresh fruit were second to none.

In our local high street Debenhams is twice the size of our nearest largest store which happens to be M&S.

As far as I can see, if our local Debenhams does close the only place left for middle class men to buy clothing will be M&S, whereas there are at least 10 places where women are able to buy clothes.

When ever a store closes in our high street, except for once, they have all been replaced by coffee shops or yuppy restaurants.

Believe it or not we have 2 Waterstone book stops which are both highly profitable.

I know Debenhams have been talking about closing in our local high street, with Next gone last year will only leave M&S and 60 coffee shops.
