08/9/2018 00:09 | Market report.. Retailers were weak on Friday after a report released overnight showed UK shops suffered their worst August in three years as inflationary pressures and a record heatwave drove consumers away and the shift to buying online continued. Accountancy and business advisory firm BDO said its monthly High Street Sales Tracker (HSST) showed like-for-like sales dropped 2.7% in August from a year earlier. Fashion sales fell 3.6% last month, making it the worst August for the sector since 2015 proactiveinvestors.c | philanderer

04/9/2018 16:40 | Only nine stores, yet they have been in existence since 1882 doesn't sound like Fenwick is a very successful company. No wonder I don't think I've ever been in one of their stores and have been to many parts of the UK. Don't even remember seeing any adverts on TV for the company, if they have advertised, can't be very good unlike M&S adverts. | freedom97

04/9/2018 10:35 | The pressure on Britain’s struggling high streets increased in August with retail sales growth slowing as a two-month heatwave came to an end, according to data from the British Retail Consortium. | philanderer
02/9/2018 09:54 | House of Fraser in significant difficulty expect more news soon. When Asley purchased the group he acquired about £90 million of stock and it seems XPO is holding a gun to Ashleys head over stock at XPO warehouses they are owed £30 million. A former Beattie store now HOF hasn't been receiving stock and XPO staff have been told to down tools and not process HOF stock. Sales at HOF must be continuing to decline potentially losing money at stores. Its looking to me like there will be more news imminently about further store closure Ashley handing keys back to Insolvency. | debsdowner
02/9/2018 09:18 | Thinking further , we are not far from a massive Tesco Wife avoids it these days as it takes so long to navigate the place. Think that is why she likes a Marks Food Hall ....quick and easy. She does keep an eye out for decent offers on Washing Powder and the like and will pick it up from the big stores if the saving is worth it. Shoppers are becoming savvy (maybe) | ignoble
02/9/2018 09:10 | Gut feeling is that I hope not. Marks seem to have a half decent formula that works in these difficult times. It obviously is still difficult for them but would it be wise to presumably saddle themselves with whopping debt ? Probably too many supermarkets anyway and Lidl/Aldi still making inroads into Food Retailing. Marks seem to have a similar formula in keeping the food stores quite small but stocking most things we will ever need. Keeps rents managable too. If it ain't broke , don't fix it | ignoble
02/9/2018 08:35 | Could it be possible if Mks gate crash Sbry-Asda party by seeking a merger with Sbry?...Mks still on the border of FTSE100 and market is desperately looking for bad news to demote from FTSE100...all these turn around plans they keep on talking about only work for a limited time and by the time if it does come to fruition the CEO departs and it all goes back into a tail spin...must say the price held up well on Friday... | diku
02/9/2018 08:10 | Good to hear In my recent comments on a visit to Marks , I forgot to mention how incredibly helpful a member of staff was. Really went out of her way to assist. Like yourself, I am definitely warming to the new and improved Marks. | ignoble
02/9/2018 08:02 | Interesting to hear views from different stores around the country. For what it's worth - I would express similar positive views regarding the Swindon Orbital branch. Very helpful staff, wife, children (in their late 30s) and I have all started going and buying more there. Store is well laid out - you almost forget you are in a large industrial hanger! Free parking - the branch in town must find it very hard to compete. | folderboy

01/9/2018 14:23 | Did chat with wife about Marks. Only real comment was that she would like a little less polyester material in the manufacture. Other than that she thought things were better ....liked the fact they are using bolder colours. | ignoble
01/9/2018 14:18 | Yup Back from Marks ...amazingly my wife bought 3 things from the Ladies Clothing Section. Usual Marks Food Hall shop as wife reckons their fruit and veg is far better than anywhere else. I like investing by what I see and I was very much encouraged by today. I realise my nearest Marks is only one store but it has vastly improved. Not too busy but we did go early. Do I buy shares now for the Christmas Rally. Probably way to early for that | ignoble
01/9/2018 10:31 | That Paddington branch is always busy! | countless
01/9/2018 10:23 | Yes a definite improvement this year . Thumbs up from my wife this week, ordering a couple of underwear items in-store, there for collection the next day. Helpful and friendly staff at the Edgeware Road branch. | philanderer |
