Lord Rose criticises Mohsin Issa and says he should step back from running ASDA after it's abysmal trading the last year where sales have fallen..

Running a large supermarket is entirely different than running a large conglomerate of a supermarket and Lord Rose is both brave and right to speak out as he has.

darrin,

Good to hear from you I know you have a good handle on retail stocks.

"Timpsons charge £10 to change a watch battery, £15 for a lifetime battery warranty (if you can find the receipt). The battery costs less than 20p for a quality make."

My local jeweller charges £8 to change my battery on an OMEGA I think Timpson is expensive for any repair and on shoes.

Wonder what the situation is if a battery leaks from Timpson, I suppose you could claim but not sure.

debs "You been quiet on here for a while ?"

I have been doing some work with my son since he finished his A-levels. It leaves less time for ADVFN. Euros and the Olympics have also taken up time.

Customer repairs are not economic. It's just a social responsibility service. A £36 dress includes £6 VAT. The dress costs less than £10 delivered. A repair would cost £10+. Timpsons charge £10 to change a watch battery, £15 for a lifetime battery warranty (if you can find the receipt). The battery costs less than 20p for a quality make.

Currently holding a small amount of Ocado. I would recommend QANTAS uses the filter to block "trogs". IMO their tactic is to block any reasonable conversation on a share by filling the discussion board with their diatribe. Their bile is relentless via multiple aliases and by interacting with them QANTAS you help fill the board with rubbish which is their goal. Look at the other boards they infect, like BooHoo.

Warm weather and food spend drive UK retail sales growth

UK retail sales returned to growth last month, following a slight dip in June, as increased food purchases and improved weather gave consumer spending a boost.

According to the latest BRC-KPMG retail sales monitor, total retail sales were up 0.5% on last year in July. This was against a solid comparative of +1.5% in July 2023 and followed a 0.2% annual decline in sales in June.

QUATAS,

Not sure what u mean?

Just think there is a correction in all markets at the moment but don 't expect far more falls from here at moment albeit weakness dependant on sector.

If the MPs were actually knocking on doors during the election campaign then they would have experienced first hand the feelings of the people and what they feel is wrong with the country. The politicians must begin listening to what the people are telling them..

M&S making its Ripon store bigger in St Michael's Park

M&S has today announced plans to extend its foodhall at St Michaels Retail Park, taking over an adjacent unit.

The extension will see the size of the store increase by 40%, from 7,300 to 12,300 sq ft and customers can enjoy a larger in-store bakery, fresh produce selection as well as bigger Flower and Wine Shop offerings.

A brand-new cheese barge will also showcase a selection of products including M&S’ Yorkshire Blue.

Store Manager Richard Johnston has worked at M&S for 28 years and heads up the 50-strong store team.

Over the last financial year, M&S has invested more than £20million in its stores across Yorkshire and opened its Ripon foodhall back in July 2020.

Are they really far right or just people angry at the terrible stabbings?

The more the British culture is being diluted and the more we are losing our rights to defend our traditions and history the more divided we shall be. The silent majority can, and will only take so much before there is a real uprising and unlike anything we’ve seen so far. Many other countries are clamping down on foreigners and their demands, but are they regarded as far right? No, they are preserving their countries standards of living and putting their people first. Why do British governments not do the same?
