M&S is opening a second store in Battersea Power Station

Marks & Spencer has announced that it’ll be opening a new store in Battersea Power Station this November.

If you’re thinking: ‘isn’t there already an M&S at Battersea Power Station?’, you’d be correct. Marks and Sparks currently has a food hall in the swishly-refurbed industrial titan, which since opening in late 2022 has become one of London’s most popular attractions. The new M&S will be the chain’s second in the building and a ‘clothing and beauty’ outpost.

The massive new 8,400-square-foot store will build on the brand’s existing presence at the shopping centre, and it’ll feature womenswear, menswear, beauty, and accessories.

The new M&S will also create 30 new jobs, and it’s part of a wider commitment by the retailer to invest more than £30 million in its London stores. The capital already saw a market-style food hall open in Sidcup (southeast London) in June, and another is due to open at Friern Bridge Retail Park (in Barnet, north London) this August.

Financial Times:

Ocado boss Tim Steiner has said he intends to retain the group’s stake in its venture with M&S after its five-year anniversary, which allows either side to sell their shares to the other.

QUANTAS,

"Ocado and M&S have been named the fastest growing retailers over the past 12 weeks, with sales up 12.9% and 8.6%, respectively."

Unfortunately KANTAR doesn't include MARKS in their monthly data on grocery market share.

Moreover Neilson (NIQ) data isn't published on a regular basis.

However looking at the data from the link you have placed on this forum this is probably why the share price has spiked up recently.

What we don't have is the non food side and we will have to wait for a trading update in that respect.

M&S partners with Cygnet Gin founder

Katherine Jenkins OBE, the founder of Cygnet Gin, has been named a food ambassador for British retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S).

Jenkins said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to join the M&S family as their newest food ambassador. Growing up in Wales, M&S was always the go-to destination for the most sustainable top- quality food and drink and so it was already a perfect match for my beloved Cygnet Gin, which I’m delighted is now on shelves in more Foodhalls than ever before.”

Bento opens sushi bar in M&S Grafton Street

The opening of the kiosk in the Grafton Street store has created seven jobs in the local area

Bento Sushi and Pan-Asian Kitchen has recently opened a sushi bar in M&S Grafton Street, creating seven new jobs.

The opening of the new Dublin city outlet follows the success of its kiosks in M&S stores in Liffey Valley, Dundrum, Blackrock and Mary Street.

Commenting on the opening, Laura Harper, M&S trading director Ireland and Northern Ireland, said: “M&S customers expect quality produce at great value, and Bento certainly meets that criteria.

“We have already seen great success of Bento at our other M&S stores across Dublin and are delighted to expand this offering to our Grafton Street customers.”

With regard to the surge in Marks share price it doesn't really surprise me as I had a longer term price the current target and so did some of the other analysts.

Most the new brands must be making the difference and the food business doing well.

darrin,

You been quiet on here for a while ?

John Lewis is to tie up with Timpson for a repair service.

Marks and a few others have a repair service but it will only take up a tiny part of a retailers service as it simply is too costly for a lower priced garment. I suspect in some cases the repair will be half the garment new cost or at the very least 25% to 33%.

Any thoughts on the repair cost darrin?

Marks & Spencer's £49.50 fisherman sandals are giving us major designer vibes

They're the style of the moment

Looking to invest in a great-value high-street pair? We have good news for you. Marks & Spencer has released its own take on the footwear style of the moment, and it's giving us major designer vibes (think The Row's £1k fisherman sandals of dreams, for a fraction of the price) .

Ex-Asos chief Nick Beighton joins Shein backlash

The former boss of Asos has joined growing criticism of fast fashion giant Shein in asking whether it should list on the London Stock Exchange.

Nick Beighton, who turned Asos into one of the UK's biggest clothing retailers as chief executive from 2016 to 2021, is the latest industry figure to raise questions about the Singapore-based firm. Shein is reportedly seeking to join the market in a £50 billion float.

'Some of how it is producing garments, the lack of transparency, its renowned opaqueness, makes me very nervous,' he said. 'I think the London Stock Exchange should be the premier place for the best brands, the best industries, and the highest standards.'

High Street retailers are also unhappy because Shein dodges hefty customs duty as it ships direct to online shoppers from China.
