Pills, I didn't realise how close MARKS was to be promoted. ASOS now demoted to 250.

Marks continues it's growth strategy with three news brands for it's shoe range...

johnwise,

Britain was the leader in the industrial revolution and now its lost it's way and it should never have happened.

In the meantime MKS is now close to my £2 price target which isn't bad when you look at other retailers struggling apart from NEXT but MARKS must be one of the retailers largest bounce back as of late. You normally get a sell off in May then a lull during summer so MARKS gaining traction is good news.

It wouldnt surprise me if within the next 18 months MARKS gets promoted to the footsie 100 again and the share price would improve.

FTSE reshuffle: British Land booted off premier index while Ocado dodges demotion

Tesco grocery category director, Amit Chitnis, is to join Ocado as its new chief commercial officer later this year.

Chitnis brings almost 10 years experience gained in a variety of roles at Tesco.

Having first started at the supermarket giant in 2014 as head of group strategy, he went on to lead retail operations at Tesco’s west London convenience stores and serve as category head of cooking ingredients and global grocery.

In 2020, he was appointed director of trading at Booker Wholesale, a subsidiary of Tesco, and most recently took on the role of grocery category director last May.

Britain's ageing farmers are on the cusp of a wave of retirement that casts serious doubt on the Government's plan to boost domestic food production.New census figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that farmers are one of the oldest occupational groups in the UK.More than four in ten are at least 60 years old, with almost three in ten 65 or over.By contrast, a tenth of the wider workforce is aged 60 or above and just 4.3pc are over 65.The figures suggest that the agricultural sector is on the cusp of a wave of retirement that could be hugely disruptive to domestic food production. The state retirement age is currently 66 and will rise to 67 by the end of 2028....Daily Telegraph

I took a look at my local B&M at the weekend. Food area is double the size of pre covid. Food products were the same you can see at Poundland and no cheaper than ASDA. Store was busy.

Most supermarkets saw a static or fall in market share in the 12 weeks trading according to Neilson.

MARKS saw a small rise in market share however LIDL has now overtaken Morrisons which palces LIDL at number 5 behind ALDI at 4.

B&M

Posts sales up but profits down as it faces costs rising in the industry..

Most supermarkets facing the same pressures but it looks like MARKS are dealing with the headwinds better than most due to cost savings in other areas.

darrin, OCADO down near 4% again today does that suggest OCADO is out?

johnwise. no.

Markets weak on more rate rise worries and weak China data.

COOP & MARKS limit high value food products on shelves over worry of shoplifters..

Mainly coffee and steak products.

ASDA's buyout of EG group will ramp up convenience stores which in turn will make the industry more competitive but it raises worries over it's debt burden which may only pay it's interest on it's debt.

After taking a look at the rules for the FTSE 100 review, Ocado stay in and Frasers are out. MKS mkt cap is bigger than both but I think MKS would of needed a share price just over £2 to get in this review.
I am unsure if the bank holiday effects the review date.

NEW LOOK looking to refinance £100 million of it's debt and halve halfe it's stores from 800 to 400....

NEW LOOK been going since the 70's from recolection and had quite a following but struggled in the last decade along with many other brands who opened up in the 70s and 80s.

There are just too many fashion brands struggling to compete against one another and a tighter market as the birth rate has fallen.

Even BOOTS only making circa £68k per store !

Y130,

I agree entirely there is no smoke without fire and it seems it was common knowledge within This Morning.

The whole affair stinks and Lady Campbell who often goes on GB News made no bones about what she thought and accused Schofield of "grooming" the younger guy and there could be more younger males come to light in due course.

Holly was so close to Phill going on holidays together and meals as well she would have a good idea what type of a bloke Schofield was.

Mud sticks and lets face it HW also jumped the q while our Queen was laying in state and that was awfull the two of them foelt like they were better than us.

I have no time for ITV now and both of them need to sleek away.

The boss of Aldi has warned Downing Street that increases in the minimum wage will drive up food prices for shoppers, as ministers race to tackle the cost of living crisis.Giles Hurley, chief executive of Aldi in the UK and Ireland, is understood to have suggested that Britain cannot have both a high wage economy and low prices during a roundtable at No 10 earlier this month.Increases in the minimum wage put inflationary pressure on the entire food sector, Mr Hurley told supermarket executives and food production chiefs at the summit... Wonder whether MARKS will ditch Holly now with all the bad press about Philip Scofield, I am surprised she didn't know what Schofield was up to prior to the news been revealed.
