17/9/2010 20:05 | Now that one looks quite interesting. Sweden and Portugal as well as Cyprus. I like diversified portfolios ... Great chart too. | mattybuoy
17/9/2010 19:56 | What price any Cypriot gold? Northern Lion Gold (TSX VENTURE:NL) announce significant gold values their Anglesides project in Cyprus the other day. Currently have 17 permits covering over 57km2. "Anglesides has returned the most significant gold values obtained to date from the Cyprus exploration programs. These results support the Company's belief that within the Republic of Cyprus there is an under-evaluated gold mineralizing system in addition to the historically known massive sulphide bodies". Bit of a spike today, but might be worth watching and playing on any falls. | riggerbeautz
17/9/2010 17:04 | This just in, from Taipan Daily ... It's official, US dollars are worth less than toilet paper: Which is a better medium for storing savings, U.S. dollars or toilet paper? CLSA strategist Russell Napier would rather have the toilet paper. The strategist makes his point with a reference to Kimberly-Clark Corp. (KMB:NYSE), the blue chip hygiene products company. Said Napier to an audience in Hong Kong: Kimberly Clark, as you know, makes toilet paper. And the Federal Reserve makes dollar bills. If I take a dollar bill and change it into a deposit in a bank, I'm lucky if I get 0.5%. If I buy Kimberly Clark – it owns big printing presses that print toilet paper – it gives me a dividend yield of 4%, seven times higher. Well played, Mr. Napier. Well played. Made me LOL :-) | mattybuoy
17/9/2010 16:46 | Ivanhoe just keeps going up. Can anyone else point me at a non-producing miner with a market cap of over $10bn? Say what you like about Cap'n Bob, he does create immense shareholder value. There is a guy on IV who thinks that after selling OT to Rio (or whatever) he will saddle up Entrée Gold as the next pony. I have my doubts about this, but I do find the whole thing interesting to watch, and ETG is definitely way under-valued regardless. | mattybuoy
16/9/2010 19:55 | I concur, this is sad news indeed. A minutes silence is requested. | redredblack
16/9/2010 17:37 | No! Niko has launched a new proper website, and the logo in the header has broken. | mattybuoy
16/9/2010 15:15 | Alexco (AXR.V) hit a new high today, trading just under it now. | andy
15/9/2010 23:43 | Interesting situation going on with the below. I find it quite compelling but DYOR of course. Note: One reason I find it attractive is because it enables me to acquire some Stillwater Mining shares without having to convert any money into USD, which is against my religion. Told you I was quirky ... :-) | mattybuoy
15/9/2010 21:37 | Not the most aptly named stock, unless they mean the South Pole perhaps? ;-) Still, interesting. Thanks. | mattybuoy
15/9/2010 14:22 | Hi Matty- I was steered towards Polar Star PSR and in particular the RNS on 14th Sept. The RNS looks very interesting if you read it carefully. The share price has gone up and down and now back to where it was a few months ago but with the latest bit of news the company looks as if it may be getting towards a very significant area of copper. | holism
14/9/2010 11:31 | ELE.V has been around for ages and the PI's got well and truly screwed on this deal | jonno1
13/9/2010 21:46 | One maybe to keep an eye on. Acrex Ventures Ltd announced diamond drilling has commenced on its Spanish Mountain gold property. | riggerbeautz
13/9/2010 20:56 | Meanwhile, over in Albertistan ... I mentioned a new listing by the name of Excelsior Energy (ELE.V) a while back. Well this company has only been on the market a couple of months and it's already gotten itself taken over, by none other than the biggest energy IPO hero Athabasca Oil Sands. The price is $144m, and the rationale seems to be that AOSC wants to get its hands on Excelsior's COGD technology for in-situ oil sands production. Sveinung Svarte, president and CEO of AOSC says, "The addition of Excelsior's high quality assets to those of AOSC at Hangingstone is in line with the strategy we have presented to our investors and creates a world-class, stand-alone project. The Transaction will result in a project of critical size and an accelerated development of the area. It also gives us ownership of their proprietary COGD (Combustion Overhead Gravity Drainage) technology." "Sveinung Svarte" - where do they get these names from? I wonder if he knows Stig Slotboom of Vast Exploration. LOL | mattybuoy
13/9/2010 20:44 | A small bit of scuttlebutt on the recent Niko AGM from Stockhouse, FWIW. Supposedly the Indonesian acreage might contain 17 targets of 10 TCF or so each. | mattybuoy
13/9/2010 19:55 | I think this is quite an interesting one, apart from not having a logo I can use ... (AHC.V) It's an odd combination of silver and REEs in Argentina combined with uranium in Wyoming. The main attraction is that they have staked all the ground surrounding Silver Standard's Pirquitas mine, which has reserves of 195m oz of silver and is in the process of ramping production up to 10m oz per year. Finding even a much smaller version of that would be quite useful. The market cap is so small it's not even worth mentioning. | mattybuoy
13/9/2010 19:39 | Yes I seem to remember that Great Panther is a good one. Ages since I looked at it though. | mattybuoy
13/9/2010 16:29 | I'm enjoying this Dorato stuff, keep us posted. Matty, I'm liking Silver so keen to look out for any decent Silver plays, have you come across this lot ? Great Panther Silver Ltd. (TSX:GPR) is one of the best silver plays. Production is set to ramp up dramatically during the next couple years. It's spending the money that's necessary on a historic Mexican silver project that's been worked for literally centuries, but which has never had the benefit of modern mining methods and exploration techniques. I think there are great things ahead as production, reserves and resources expand. | cagey76
12/9/2010 23:14 | I enjoy ferreting this stuff out :-) A correction is required though. Although Dorato is described as a member of the "Cardero Group" the parent company does not actually seem to own any shares at this point. Don't know why ... | mattybuoy
12/9/2010 22:59 | matty, Excellent research! Goldrush, Care to expand on that "mining camp in africa" bit? aiminvestor@hotmail. I will look at Dorato tomorrow, but it's the right side of the Ecuadorian border, so a good start! | andy
12/9/2010 22:23 | Interestingly enough, Dorato has lead me to something else. Cardero is an "incubator" type of company, which alongside its own activities has a large stake in Dorato as well as several other junior companies. What immediately strikes you is that it's market cap is less than the cash on the balance sheet, valuing the internal projects and external equity holdings at less than zero. This cash is mostly from the sale of a large iron ore deposit in Peru to the Chinese. The Pamba de Pongo property was purchased in 2004 for around $700,000 and, after proving up the resource, sold in 2008 for $100m. This indicates a certain level of competence shall we say. I'm going to have a closer look ... | mattybuoy
12/9/2010 20:39 | Mattybuoy You are on!!....I will let you know how it goes. All the best. | goldrush
12/9/2010 20:32 | When it ten bags you can buy me a pint ;-) | mattybuoy
12/9/2010 20:22 | Mattybuoy That's the one!! Many many thanks. g | goldrush
12/9/2010 19:26 | another 2 weeks & ACG may have some further news on est production notice that the share price has re traced not in yet but fancy a punt on this one 45c at present, been as low as 25c & briefly for a few days at 80c to 1$. | laserdisc |
