16/8/2009 10:37 | Were an offer to be made then so be it but for now progress continues to be made in building on a solid base of strong customer retention, via the benefits which stem from winning new business while in parallel reducing cots, which in turn is also helping to win new business. So a virtuous cycle is currently in play. | mike111d

11/8/2009 14:32 | On looking at today's share price performance, it might be a big slice of pie in the sky. | robwt
11/8/2009 14:23 | Logica is still very cheap and within the Company there is a great deal of expertise on IT security. Interestingly, the word Cobham is mentioned above and it was in Cobham Park that Logica did much of its IT security work. (It is now a block of flats) | selborne_edge
11/8/2009 14:01 | Let's make it easier for this bb (lifted with thanks as per robwt's post above) - beat me to posting the reference: BE: There's lots of talk about the defence sector BE: Some talk on Cobham again this morning BE: And DealReporter ran a curious story on BAE buying Logica yesterday. MJ: BE: Seemed a bit leftfield to me, but there you go. BE: Will dig out the story. BE: BAE Systems, the UK-listed defence group, is looking to expand its security capabilities outside the defence space and could make a move for an IT based company, sources familiar with the defence and technology sector said. The sources named several companies including UK listed Logica as potential targets. BE: Last month, Anthony Zinni, chairman and interim chief executive at BAE Systems, said the company would broaden its security businesses further beyond the Defense Department with a focus on areas where it already has expertise, such as intelligence, energy and information management technology. Following his comments, BAE announced it had won a USD 325m US contract for managed IT services with the US Treasury. BE: A spokesperson for the defence group said it continued to look for organic and acquisitive opportunities across its home markets and four global initiatives "one of which is security," he said. BAE sees significant opportunities in through-life support (also known as Readiness & Sustainment), government security and cyber warfare technologies and power management, said the spokesperson and a source familiar with BAE. BE: Two banking sources speculated the UK listed defense giant could bid for Logica whose operations in the public sector account for 30% of the company's overall revenues. A third banker said that BAE would likely target an acquisition in the low single digit billions and Logica's market capitalization of GBP 1.65bn would fit with this scenario. BE: The first banking source and the third agreed that BAE could either acquire the whole of Logica and sell on the non core divisions to an Indian IT company, or simply take out the divisions it required. "Logica holds sensitive defence contracts with the UK government and would only divest its public sector arm to a UK or US group," the first banking source said. In the past BAE has targeted companies that are no more than 15% non core, noted a fourth banker. BE: A deal could happen in the short to mid term before Logica surrenders tie-up initiatives from international players, particularly Asian IT groups, said the first banker who is familiar with Logica. He said that Logica will be ready to sell off its global operations in the next 2 to 3 years, once its public unit is safely divested to a "government-friendly BE: There's a bit more, but if you want it you can buy a DealReporter subscription. | grahamburn
11/8/2009 13:57 | I had a look at BA just now. Look at post 107/108 by newseller. Seems there is talk that BA want to make acquisitions and Logica fits their bill. I agree with Selborne, it does make a lot of sense and might explain that some of Logica's recent rise could be on bid expectations. Like the FT reported, LOG are cheap compared to the rest of the sector | robwt
11/8/2009 12:35 | That would make a lot of sense. Logica has always carried out a lot of work in the defence and security industries. BAE also seems to be doing very well in the US. | selborne_edge
11/8/2009 12:04 | Faint rumours of predatory interest from BAE Systems!! | big_dunc
10/8/2009 18:08 | FT says Logica look cheap. | robwt

07/8/2009 15:29 | All very encouraging; Andy Green is to be congratulated | selborne_edge
07/8/2009 14:15 | Bloomberg report. | robwt
07/8/2009 12:38 | robwt, you are spot on with regards to the comment about new business. This was something that I had tuned into earlier in the year i.e. they recognised that their retention levels remained very high and so the key then was to supplement this with greater focus in the area of new business developemnt. So far, so good, | mike111d
07/8/2009 09:14 | Your last prediction proved to be very accurate robwt; agree that the £2 is achieveable. | selborne_edge |
