11/1/2019 10:26 | excell1 - Doh..... No, one doesn’t have to explain the difference between a one off referendum and a general election. Perhaps what needs explaining is that one is legally binding whilst the other is not!!! Don’t presume I’m a remainer - you might be wrong about that too LOL | wilmo
11/1/2019 10:24 | I think BBC couldn't find a credible candidate...she is probably there temporary as a gap filler until such time...notice lately the panel coming on the programme is also light weight...could do with some heavy weight Politicians like the good old days | diku
11/1/2019 10:23 | Pawsche11 Jan '19 - 10:11 - 242159 of 242162 Agreed re Internet, but intense debate elsewhere. Personally I was persuaded as much by the "No more European Wars" debate than any other argument. Still holds true for me currently. | bbalanjones

11/1/2019 10:18 | missed this yesterday . . . :- Lloyds Banking Group – Buy, price target 80p "We expect another set of uneventful numbers with the bank under good control, managing volumes against price in lending, tough conditions in Other Operating Income and solid credit quality," reckons Napier. The full-year dividend is seen at 3.3p, up 7% year-on-year, plus a £1.5 billion share buyback, which gives a total capital return of 9% of market cap. "LBG is, in our view, an undervalued, strongly capital generative bank, operating with a cost advantage in a competitive market and with decent medium-term growth opportunities in lending, savings, investments and general insurance," writes UBS. The broker forecasts fourth-quarter adjusted pre-tax profit of £1.8 billion, including above-the-line remediation costs of £141 million and UK bank levy of £200 million. | bbalanjones
11/1/2019 10:17 | Cameroon went to great lengths to make it clear that it was a one off, and that they would implement the electorates will. | maxk
11/1/2019 10:14 | If only Cameron would have said in 2016 it will be best of 3 or 5!.... | diku
11/1/2019 10:11 | @bbalanjones - 11 Jan '19 - 10:01 - 242154 m4u : SHUSH! Such Blasphemy is not welcome to most contributors. 67.2% - Must have been a counting error!!! (Either that or the Unions stuffed the Ballot Boxes.) We didn't have the internet in 1975, it meant that the news and the message could be easily controlled, making it much easier for the politicians and mass media to lie to us - which they did, in spades! If the 2016 referendum had been taken after only allowing politicians, the BBC and major newspapers to "tell us the facts" what do you think the result would have been? My guess is 70:30 remain:leave. | pawsche
11/1/2019 10:06 | Nice One PC! ! :-)) | bbalanjones
11/1/2019 10:06 | Well, lets give it 40+ years to see how it turns out...like the last one. | maxk
11/1/2019 10:06 | @wilmo - 11 Jan '19 - 08:45 - 242138 I cannot think of any other situation that doesn’t give the population the opportunity for change. That’s why we have a general election at least once every 5 years. Indeed... However, I believe that it's normal to allow the government voted in at a General Election to take office before calling for another GE. | pawsche
11/1/2019 10:04 | Yes, to The Tower with the pair of you! | patientcapital

11/1/2019 09:52 | Under the Labour Prime Minister, Harold Wilson, there was a UK referendum on continued membership of the EEC in 1975. The electorate voted 'Yes' by 67.2% to 32.8% to stay in Europe. So it's 1-1 at the moment :) | m4rtinu
11/1/2019 09:48 | excell111 Jan '19 - 09:02 - 242139 of 242151 In plain and simple terms the "One-off" Referendum was held 40 Years ago! | bbalanjones
11/1/2019 09:40 | The way UK Politics/Democracy is being played out and laid bare to see is in it self supporting EU agendas... | diku
11/1/2019 09:36 | It's probably pointless trying to point out FACTS to some of you, however the Scottish Referendum was contested by the Unionists using the continuing EU membership as the reason for staying in, however that's now been turned on it's head and of course Scotland overwhelmingly voted to remain in the EU, as such the people were lied to and cheated which makes the previous result nil and void. | ladeside
11/1/2019 09:32 | Time for a new BREXIT party. Stand at the next election to deliver REAL Brexit, not a watered down version that's worse than remain. Such a party with a charismatic leader would get support from Brexiteer Tories and Labour voters...17.4 million pool and rising. Clearly neither the Tories or Labour are capable of delivering hard, real, no deal Brexit, time to get rid of them both. They have failed the people. Where's my yellow jacket gone....going to start wearing it to the shops. | cheshire pete
11/1/2019 09:31 | Did anybody watch BBC Question Time yesterday with new host Fiona Bruce in charge?...I thought she had too much of a false smile... | diku
11/1/2019 09:16 | Trading on WTO rules will be a liberation for the UK – and the Labour leadership needs to embrace it Brendan Chilton is co-author with Lord Lilley of 30 Truths about leaving on WTO terms: Why WTO offers a safer haven than the Backstop, which is published today by Global Britain and Labour Leave. The tone of the language we so often hear and the words we frequently read associated with trading on World Trade Organisation terms is negative and promotes images of chaos and disorder. All of this is based on deliberate fear. ... Source : | xxxxxy |
