Disagree Mr. Elbee #282 point 1, on the contrary they should be fast tracked UK citizenship. Having chosen not to claim asylum in other EU countries en route to the French coast and their perilous trip across the channel, they are clearly capable of discerning between good and bad and would likely vote Brexit if there's a second referendum.

Any thoughts if I will get my targeted 45p buy in in the New Year as Bexit shenanigans re-commence, or should I wait to see if it goes lower? My worry is it could be sub 35p with a no deal brexit, interest rate rises, unemployment and housing crash?

1.all asylum seekers have to returned to the first country of European origin whose borders they have crossed[Dublin agreement]..France does this with Italian migrants..We are no different .
2.MEP's are obliged to sign NDA's which impose ZERO criticism of the EU at any time in the future if they want their expense claims and pensions to be processed.

How's everybody done in 2018 then? Referencing the FTSE 100 ( which has faired better than Euro bourses and the 250, but worse than the S and P) it's down 12.5% and exactly 9% with dividends. Thought I had had a stinker but -9.5% with a relatively better performance since the general correction. Killed by Taylor Wimpey and Aviva ( principally) but bucking the trend on investment trusts especially renewables. A stinker but not far off average.

Should say I have more in cash so almost level all told.

Happy new year.

You have to laugh/pity someone who proclaims to be a multi millionaire yet spends virtually the whole of his waking hours posting on an internet bulletin board.

The "Miss Haversham" of ADVFN.

Good man Poikka, ignore the trolls and keep your excellent posts coming please.

Re: Trump, so a POTUS should only be in office if he/she is a paragon of virtue then? Our PM goes to Church but IMHO she is the worst PM in my lifetime with the possible exceptions of Blair and Major. Personally would sooner have someone with a questionable 'life record' who nevertheless attempts to deliver on manifesto promises (even if he is motivated in part by self interest) than someone ostensibly virtuous who reneges and backtracks on promises.

Polar - thanks for the update on TVR. My thoughts:

1. Is it too simplistic to say the share buyback didn't benefit ordinary shareholders?

2. Is it fair to judge the share price before/after buyback, given volatile market conditions, due to macro events?

3. Will Lloyds be keen to get another buyback going with the shares apparently so cheap?

Still a lot of uncertainty (markets-wise) to go through before this Brexit mess ends. And how will it end? There was some talk of a number of votes on various EU trade relations options to gauge preferences of MPs (eg Norway-style, Canada-style, Gangnam-style?). Not sure if that is still on the agenda. And if it will be before/ after the vote on Mrs May's deal. Possibly another delaying tactic.
