This tactic of boasting about their humble origins must be based upon the assumption that ordinary voters will vote for someone like themselves who understand their problems.
I am not so sure that the mentality of the uk electorate is like that, looking at the background of previous prime ministers. They seem to accept the principle of an officer class, trained to lead and rule.

I was wondering whether the fact the Sunak was of Indian origin and of Hindu faith was possibly a factor after all.
It is not with me, and is an unmentionable politically incorrect topic, but maybe for some traditionalist UK voters it is taking inclusivity a step too far.

Hard to imagine a white Anglo Saxon protestant as Prime Minister of India, even if he was born there.
Quite rightly, this factor is never discussed.
