Lockdown forever..

The UK's national statistician said he has "no doubt" that there will be a further wave of Covid-19 infections in the autumn.

Professor Sir Ian Diamond, head of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), also said there is a lot of regional variation in terms of how many people have antibodies.

His comments come after England's chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty said there were still risks to reopening society and the UK will experience another surge of cases at some point, potentially in late summer or through the autumn and winter.

Sir Ian said people need to understand how the data is moving forward and look at the impact of the "wonderful" vaccine rollout.

"But having said that, we need also to recognise that this is a virus that isn't going to go away. And I have no doubt that in the autumn there will be a further wave of infections," he told BBC's Andrew Marr.

52 new deaths from Covid-19 in UK
The Government said a further 52 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Sunday, bringing the UK total to 125,516.

Separate figures published by the UK's statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 147,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Sunday, there had been a further 4,618 lab-confirmed cases in the UK.

It brings the total to 4,258,438.

John Redwood@johnredwood2hThe huge US stimulus and money creation runs the risk of inflation. The U.K. is being more cautious. To make sure prices stay down the U.K. needs to make a big investment in increased capacity in many areas. Everything from food to electricity, broadband to timber.

They are not protesting about anything. They are just middle class lefties who have accumulated a lot of pent up virtue signalling, which they are desperate to give vent to.

Psycho - "You do have to wonder what are the mysterious thought processes that have led one country after another to suspend use of the AZN vaccine."

No doubt panic, as you say, brought on by Macron, Merkel and VD Leyen's statements of the vaccine's unreliability. If they weren't so-called leaders of countries and the EU, and be in positions to do it harm, AZN would have been suing them by now.

Joe, saw an article (possibly on here) where they predicted how Sunak would pay for covid. They forecast inflation at 3% by 2024..could be good for Lloyd's. With government appointed Juan shag monster out the door, perhaps Lloyd's might not be quite as obliging to government & might actually start operating in the best interests of its share holders. We can but hope.

Jaguar E-Type reborn for 60th anniversary

Jaguar Classic has unveiled its first matched pair of E-type 60 Collection cars, and revealed full specification details for the 12 expertly restored and sympathetically uprated 3.8-litre E-types built to celebrate 60 years of the iconic sports car.

The E-type made its world debut in Geneva, Switzerland on 15 March 1961. The public reaction to the lone coupé available for test drives was so strong that Jaguar rushed a second E-type, a roadster, from Coventry to Geneva overnight.

Six decades later, the E-type 60 Collection pays tribute to these two legendary cars: the Opalescent Gunmetal Grey coupé ‘9600 HP’, driven ‘flat out’ by Bob Berry to make the launch itself, and the British Racing Green roadster ’77 RW’, driven by Norman Dewis who was told to ‘drop everything’ to get to Geneva the next day.
