Jim Bob2 Feb 2021 3:33AMAs time goes by and the fact that Germany single handedly props up Europe becomes even more glaring, do we expect the Germans to bite their lip and suppress their nationalism forever? WW2 is fading from living memory, it is only natural that their patience and sense of obligation have limits, and without them there is no EU.One day they may say "sod this" and leave or, more worryingly, they may decide to simply take over the EU. They seem to be half way there already.34LikeReplyThe Road To Serfdom2 Feb 2021 7:40AMNo, you misunderstand, Germany rules Europe via the facade of the EU in Brussels, it is the 4th Reich. Germany finally got it's continental empire it had sought for so long, third time lucky, and this time peacefully. The UK now need to build its 'third empire', not a top down regional block but an agile global network of like minded allies and friends exchanging ideas, trade, investment and working together for defence of democracy and their common wealth.24LikeReplyMilla Fid2 Feb 2021 7:05AMGermany owns the EU and runs it for their own benefit whilst playing an extremely clever propaganda game. All the "Germany props up the EU" rhetoric is rubbish. Do you know how much money they have earned already on the enslavement of Greece? There is zero, that is zero appetite to leave the EU amongst German politicians who are not fringe.... Daily Telegraph

Only time will tell I guess. But it is looking like we will do better out of the EU than in it. Hmmm! maybe I mean they will do worse than us the way they are going if it continues to survive. Degrees of worseness I guess.
That said we are all sailing on the same ship here in the UK like it or not and to that end we are all better off bailing out the water rather than trying to drill holes in the hull.

Vision Express set to build new production facility in Nottingham

A planning application for a new 101,836 sq ft (9,461 sq m) state of the art production facility which will be the first at Nottingham’s Fairham Business Park, has been submitted to Rushcliffe Borough Council by Derbyshire-based Clowes Developments on behalf of Europe’s largest optical group GrandVision for its Vision Express arm.

The application is in response to the potential relocation of Nottingham headquartered Vision Express to the development following Fairham Business Park being identified as the preferred location for its new production facility in the region.

The leading optical manufacturer and retailer is currently located across several sites in and around Nottingham. The proposed multi-million pound new build facility at Fairham Business Park will enable it to bring three of its existing operations together in one place for the first time, safeguarding local jobs and giving the company its own home with potential for future growth.

The application is being brought forward as part of the wider masterplan for the £800m Fairham development being delivered by a joint venture between Derbyshire-based Clowes Developments and Homes England, the government’s housing accelerator. Outline planning permission is in place for one million square feet of commercial space within the 50 acre Fairham Business Park.

Michael Flint, JV & Proper Director for Vision Express comments:

“By bringing these plans forward and working in partnership with Rushcliffe Borough Council and Clowes Developments, we are looking to maintain our presence in the Nottingham area. Following significant research, we have identified Fairham Business Park as our preferred location as it will allow us to bring our operations together into one new facility which will provide significant advantages for the productivity of the business and also allow us to accommodate an increased workforce in excess of the 360 people already employed.”

Development Director at Clowes Developments, James Richards, said:

“Bringing forward plans for a new state of the art facility for an organisation of the calibre of Vision Express clearly sets the scene for our aspirations for Fairham Business Park.”

Fairham Business Park is located just to the south of Clifton and alongside the A453 Remembrance Way dual carriageway. Subject to planning permission, construction of the building could start in April this year, allowing for occupation by the end of 2021.
