"THE HATED EU"

You mean certain EU leaders and ours, along with the media trying to whip up bitterness.

The 'normal' masses of the EU are a great bunch, no different to any hard working decent nation here or over there.

I have travelled extensively all over Europe and beyond, and 9 times out of 10 found most to be friendly and very helpful, and no 'bitterness' towards the British.

Just the media trying to score points.

The EU has backtracked on a decision to temporarily override part of the Brexit deal amid an ongoing row over vaccine supplies.

Boris Johnson had warned European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen of his "grave concerns" over Brussels' move to invoke Article 16 of the Northern Ireland Protocol to stop the unimpeded flow of jabs from the bloc into the region on Friday.

EU sources said the move had been a "misjudgment", as the European Commission U-turned to say it is "not triggering the safeguard clause" to ensure the protocol is "unaffected".

The move to impinge on the protocol, which blindsided both the UK and Ireland and provoked condemnation from across the political spectrum, came as the bloc is embroiled in a row with pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca over shortfalls in the delivery of jabs.

Neither the UK PM or the Irish Taoiseach was informed of Brussels' intention to invoke Article 16 of the protocol ahead of time, it is understood.

Arlene Foster, Northern Ireland First Minister, has urged Boris Johnson to replace the protocol after the fiasco.

She told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that Brussels' threat on Friday was an "absolutely incredible act of hostility towards those of us in Northern Ireland", adding: "It's absolutely disgraceful and I have to say the Prime Minister now needs to act very quickly to deal with the real trade flows that are being disrupted between Great Britain and Northern Ireland."

The protocol, which is part of the Withdrawal Agreement, is designed to allow the free movement of goods from the EU into Northern Ireland, and prevent the need for a hard border on the island of Ireland.

Let's face it, UK pharma is strong mainly because of two reasons: The NHS and universities.

NHS: Founded by Labour.
Universities: world leading because little restriction was placed on who attended. Tories are now killing that.

"I couldn't have made it any more clearer yesterday, there is no place for nationalistic behaviour anywhere in the world today"

What part of that sentence don't you understand?

I don't have to say anymore, I think I have said it. I certainly don't have to say anything to someone like you. Think yourself lucky I responded.

All this recent fighting over vaccines would not have happened if we were still in the EU.

It's like divorcing your wife for no reason and then you start to complain that she is after 50% of the assets and then you come out with the comment "I told you so, she is now showing her true colours". LOL

This is just music to the ears of clowns like Boris, this is exactly what he wants, and some EU politicians and Remainers are falling for it, but having said that when a country threatens naval boats on your fishermen what do you expect in return?

I couldn't have made it any more clearer yesterday, there is no place for nationalistic behaviour anywhere in the world today, there are more important things facing humanity that require collective behaviour of nations. Nationalistic behaviour includes clowns on this thread going "me first,me first,me first,me first" and "our, our, our," when you have no foundation to say neither.

John Redwood@johnredwood6mGlad the EU seems to be withdrawing its export ban on vaccines. UK government must now ensure smooth trade between NI and GB without EU interference and restrictions. Still need more clarity and an apology from the EU who cynically use the Irish border as a lever.
