Weak Starmer:

"Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said the "war of words" between the EU and AstraZeneca has "got to be resolved" but he did not want a solution which affected the UK's supply.

Speaking to LBC Radio, he said: "I want to resolve this by ramping up manufacture across the world, I don't want to interrupt the way we are doing it in this country, I don't want to push that 12-week gap (between doses) back any further."

Waste of print, really.

" get back to accepting those words in the prayer book,"

Ah yes, the middle ages! Did they not have the Black Death to deal deal with for "accepting" some silly words in a prayer book?

Live Politics latest news: Covid vaccines 'planned, paid for and scheduled' will stay in UK, says Michael Gove

Catherine Neilan, politics live editor
28 JANUARY 2021 • 10:33AM

Michael Gove has said the AstraZeneca vaccines that have been "planned, paid for and scheduled" will go to the UK, and not diverted to the EU.

Yesterday Brussels demanded that millions of British-made coronavirus vaccines are diverted from the UK to the EU in an increasingly bitter cross-Channel tug of war over the jabs.

Asked about this today, Mr Gove said: "We must make sure we continue with the effective acceleration of our vaccination programme. That relies on the supply schedule that has been agreed being honoured."

"The critical thing is we must make sure the schedule that has been agreed, and on which our vaccination programme has been based and planned, goes ahead."

Asked if UK supplies could be diverted to help the EU, he added: "It is the case that the supplies which ave been planned, paid for and scheduled, should continue. There will be no interruption to that.

"The right approach to take with our friends in Europe is to foster cooperative dialogue

Completely agree with you Pierre. And I think the answer is, we need to get back to accepting those words in the prayer book, in the midst of life we are in death; and we must make a conscious decision that there is no justification for depriving younger people of rich, full lives worth living, just so those in their 80s and 90s can get a few more years or months drooling in armchairs.

fauci is already changing the threshold for the useless tests..so no positive tests any more so no hospital admissions and HCQ now allowed AFTER Trump has gone[ so we do not need a dangerous vaccine any more]...never mind the numpties who are royally screwed for their own personal immunity till they die...

Graham, all those ill effects aren't due to covid at all. They are due to the actions taken in attempts to contain/cure/stop the spread/protect the nhs whatever that means, protect the aged who often choose to be less protective of their life than the government supposed protecting them.

Of course, the clear evidence is that all those measures to protect/cure/stop covid haven't worked.

The expectation seems to be eliminate covid before we get back to a normal life. Unfortunately, we'll have to live with covid like we live with all other diseases. Man has only managed to eliminate one disease of the thousands, that being smallpox, and that after several decades of cooperation with just about every country in the world. Even the plague still pops up two or 3 times a year. Covid is, like 99.9% of all afflictions, here to stay, and we have to live with it.

My NZ daughter tells me that flights between NZ and OZ have been stopped, despite there being no covid on NZ and all arrivals have to quarantine in government hotels for two weeks. Things get more sinister by the day.

A little light relief:"German media has rounded on the EU over Europe's vaccine debacle today – calling it 'the best advert for Brexit' while blaming chief Ursula von der Leyen for the delays. The EU is acting 'slowly, bureaucratically and protectionist... and if something goes wrong, it's everyone else's fault' fumed a front-page editorial in Die Zeit, one of Germany's best-respected broadsheets.Meanwhile Bild tore apart Von Der Leyen's explanation of the vaccine delays and threat to stop supplies heading to the UK line by line, accusing her of placing 'junk' orders for vaccines three months behind Britain.'She says: "We know that there is no time to lose in a pandemic," but what she means is: "We may have wasted time. But we will NEVER admit that",' the newspaper wrote.Meanwhile 'Brexit Brits continue to receive full supplies,' the paper added. Both reports quoted the same AstraZeneca worker, who anonymously told reporters: 'I understand Brexit better now.'"
