Why are we wasting our time with EU when it costs us £1bn odd a month.

This is all the EU has been interested in. Stretching out payments for as long as possible.

And Remainers fell for it.

'It's because of this ridiculous left wing Political Correctness'

no it's not. you ask the people on the receiving end of comments if it's offensive. if they say it is, then it is.

Mike,

What is wrong with saying people of colour? Suppose they could say non white.

It's because of this ridiculous left wing Political Correctness that many are suffering because we are not allowed to be factual.

Black is a colour.
Brown is a colour.

A spade is a spade.

Woke lefties need to grow up as stop this ridiculousness as it is costing lives.

Today: Brexit negotiations fail to make a breakthrough and time is running out to get any deal ratified before the end of the transition period. Meanwhile, Trudeau expects Canada-UK deal can be done before 2021 and EU claims it is prepared to inflict massive self-harm by shutting out City of London.Brexit talks fail to produce breakthrough: This week's Brexit 'deadline' looks as if it will sail past with negotiators still unable to find a way to bridge the last remaining gaps between their two positions. Both sides privately admit that this weeks target for a deal will be missed and that talks will have to continue into next week and even beyond, leaving little time for either the British or EU Parliament to ratify any deal before it comes into force on the 1st January.Talks resumed in London this week but have provided no real solutions with a UK source describing the EU's position as "wholly unrealistic". Negotiations are set to continue on into next week but the lack of progress over the last few days has left some feeling that they may well collapse.Negotiations could 'fall apart' altogether: Ireland's foreign minister Simon Coveney warned that there will be "real problems" if an agreement cannot be reached in time for next Thursday's video summit as he urged Brussels negotiator Michel Barnier to "show some compromise to accommodate many British asks" in the last leg of the talks. However he also said the UK government would have to accept strong competition rules and a compromise on fishing, something Number 10 has so far rejected."We can't agree to arrangements requiring us to operate laws equivalent to the EU's and make us pay a penalty if we moved away from them," one source told the Sun. "We need policy space to decide what is in the UK's interest in the future. That is the very essence of what Brexit is about." Coveney's biggest concern was over the 'level playing field' with him going on to say that "I think it is quite possible this could fall apart and we don't get a deal. That wouldn't shock me at all." Level playing field remains a key issue: With the level playing field rearing its ugly head again, it's important to remember that the EU's negotiating position on this issue began with them originally demanding the wholesale application of EU subsidy law in Britain, overseen by the European Court of Justice. Now, Brussels want a system that sees standards evolve over time and have a mechanism to restrict access to the EU market if the UK diverges too far. From the very start of negotiations, the EU has sought to continue to impose its law on the British people, even after the transition period, and any talk of the EU 'softening its position' is just cover for the real aim of keeping the UK tied to rules made by Brussels, for the benefit of Brussels and enforced by Brussels. The UK side is anxious that the proposed system is entirely novel to a basic FTA and although open to common principles for differing subsidy systems, they cannot agree to arrangements that would require Britain to operate under the EU's rules and be forced to pay a penalty in the event of any movement. EU leaders are due to meet next Thursday, a date seen by some in Brussels as a deadline to resolve issues on state aid, fisheries and mechanisms for future disputes. Talks are set to go down to the wire, but Downing Street declined to state a deadline despite saying that any deal would have to be reached in time for it to be ratified by both parliaments. Brussels to shut out City of London from EU: Brussels looks set to lock the City of London out of European markets from 1 January, with the EU not planning on granting regulatory equivalence before the end of the Brexit transition period. Equivalence, which gives non-EU countries access to European financial markets, is granted when Brussels rules an outside country has similar financial services regulations to its own.UK Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, announced earlier this week that the UK would grant equivalence to EU and EEA financial services firms, but EU sources say that Brussels will still lock out the City of London post-Brexit.A source with knowledge of the situation told City A.M. that "The EU doesn't have the legal mechanism to grant equivalence yet. It's introducing a new equivalence regime in the middle of next year in June 2021, so they've effectively said they can't look at equivalence right now even if they wanted to."A Commission spokesperson said that no decision had yet been made on equivalence but previous comments by EU officials also indicate that the decision will have to wait until later next year. Trudeau optimistic about UK-Canada deal: Justin Trudeau has said that he expects a trade deal with the UK to be done before 2021. Speaking at a digital event hosted by the FT, the Canadian PM said that a deal should be straightforward: "Canada is a really easy one - we're there for it, we'd like to do it, so I'm very hopeful that it's going to get done, but that is really up to the U.K. government." However, Trudeau also said that the greatest challenge is 'bandwidth' within the British government to working on the deal as it seeks to negotiate multiple trade deals at once. Trudeau noted that many parts of the current EU agreement could be rolled over to speed up the process.China's fresh assault on Hong Kong democracy: China's assault on democratic freedoms in Hong Kong continues as Beijing ordered the expulsion of four opposition MPs from the territory's parliament. China cited their "unpatriotic" activities as the reason for the move. The remaining opposition members announced that they would resign in solidarity, leaving Hong Kong's legislative council dominated by supporters of the Chinese Communist Party and its attack on democracy. The standing committee of the National People's Congress passed a resolution authorising immediate disqualification from office for those who support Hong Kong's independence, question Chinese sovereignty, encourage foreign interference in the territory or endanger national security, leading to the events.Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab has declared that China is in breach of the Sino-British Joint Declaration in response to the disqualification of the pro-democracy lawmakers. "China has once again broken its promises and undermined Hong Kong's high degree of autonomy. The UK will stand up for the people of Hong Kong, and call out violations of their rights and freedoms." Raab said in a statement. For the latest news and developments throughout the day, please do follow @GlobalVision_UK on Twitter. Thanks for reading, and enjoy the rest of your day.

Newspapers employ people to write columns specifically meant to enrage the readership.

90% of what Minerve writes is in this category. And of course the thread gets very dull when he needs a day off to recover from his excesses.

Ignoble, Msr Barnier is of the opinion that whilst the seas around the UK are undoubtedly the UK's, the fish in those seas are another matter entirely. Thus presumably Msr Barnier would be quite happy for you to tour Northern France with a cattle truck helping yourself to any livestock you might see in the fields, as whilst without doubt the fields belong to France, but the livestock in them are another matter....................One suspects that Msr Barnier might sing a different tune.

The EU, a device for Germany to extract the wealth of member nations, whilst having the French act as their willing errand boys.

Rachel Thompson9 Nov 2020 11:56PM"... applaud the essential services..."I might be alone in this one but I do not applaud essential service workers for doing their jobs that they are lucky to have whilst many more are trying to figure out how to pay the bills.  There are signs all over here that say, thank you health care workers, you are heros.  I was in medicine, I knew, we all knew the potential dangers of the job, to call me a hero is insane. There is no rhyme or reason for what is essential or not, it is arbitrary at the whim of someone who has not held a real job for many decades.  Those of us who will pay the brunt of it for generations to come without a comfy retirement.  When you take freedom away from free people, when you threaten to take away their business licenses, fine people and more and more threats,  more and more demands upon them that infringe on those rights, there is no "grateful" to be found in that.  At least from where I stand as a business owner and free person. ...
