No one said WTO is perfect or doesn't need updating Alphorn but it is better for UK than still being in the EU protectionist racket run by their Brussels mafia.

Min. Just my thoughts but I wonder if it is to avoid such intimidation that so many more Americans have voted early which COULD be an indicator of ‘hidden’ support for Biden - assuming the Trump supporters want to be highly visible when voting. Not long now but I wonder if the wider world and many Americans would benefit from a centralist left regime for the next 4 years as we all rebuild from COVID. 20 years ago who would ever have believed a conservative govt would inject current levels into supporting the country through borrowing ?? Just imagine where we would have been if interest rates were in double figures!!!!

Ref "wholesome values" in the US:

You mean like turning-up at polling stations with your Ruger 10/22 Carbine to help other voters with their voting decisions!

LOL!

Worth commenting on the WTO again as it has been the main focus of many in the Brexit camp. I have said from the beginning that that was a very foolish idea but lapped up by the Leave media and many on this thread.

- The WTO has not functioned properly since the Doha impasse from the early 2000's,
- On Aug. 31 the WTO’s former director-general, Roberto Azevedo, resigned. Azevedo said he resigned early because there was “nothing happening” at the WTO and the best way to avoid more chaos was for him to step aside,
- the WTO has been unable to agree which of the 4 deputies should take on the interim leadership. There is no head at present,
- Trump would like to close down the organisation,
- the dispute between the U.S. and other member states over which of two remaining candidates should get the top job has left the process frozen.

Summary from the TWP - The Geneva-based WTO’s mission of economic integration is under threat from protectionist policies around the globe, and without reform it risks being side-lined during the biggest economic crisis in a century. The WTO risks receding further into irrelevance.

........not an option.......and never has been.

RICHARD LITTLEJOHN: If this was 1940, Boris Johnson would stand down The Few to 'protect the RAF'

By RICHARD LITTLEJOHN FOR THE DAILY MAIL

PUBLISHED: 23:30, 2 November 2020 | UPDATED: 07:11, 3 November 2020

So much for Churchill Reincarnate. If this was 1940, Boris would be cowering in his bunker beneath Horse Guards Parade and waving the white flag.

As the bombs rained down, he'd order the population to stay indoors, huddled under the stairs or in flimsy, back-garden, corrugated iron Anderson shelters, and stand down The Few to 'Protect the RAF'.

Eighty years ago, shortly before the invading German Army closed in, the French declared Paris an open city to save it from bombardment.

Today, London, too, is an open city. The buildings are still standing but the people are long gone.

"Look, it gives me no pleasure writing this. I've supported Boris as London Mayor, over Brexit and backed him to become Tory leader and PM — even if I've never bought the Heir To Winston schtick.

But he's lost it, big time."

At this rate, his legacy won't be Brexit, or winning an 80-seat majority.

It will be destroying one of the world's strongest economies through panicky, ill-conceived policies from which it will take a generation or more to recover.

Isn't that what he wants?"Britain alone has the right to its watersEU has understood little about reality of BrexitNew treaty was not needed, merely a trade agreementNot possible both to be sovereign and to abide by Withdrawal Agreement & Political DeclarationCountries have been rescinding treaties since the word 'treaty' was inventedA Sovereign State?By the Rt Hon Ann Widdecombe?© The Rt Hon Ann WiddecombeA sovereign state owns its waters and all that in them is, so how can there be any question about the validity of Britain alone having the right to determine who fishes her seas and to what extent? The mere fact of any negotiation on this point indicates how little the EU has understood the reality of Brexit. As for there being any possibility of a level playing field, what do the negotiators imagine was the prime aim of Brexit in the first place? The single biggest benefit of no deal is that it will finally spell out to the EU that we have left for good and that we intend to operate as an independent country. Or will it? Is it possible both to be sovereign and to abide by the Withdrawal Agreement and its concomitant Political Declaration? The Internal Market Bill tests the validity of unilateral amendment but it is the whole treaty which needs repudiating. We left, so why did we ever need a new treaty as opposed to merely a trade agreement? There has been a great deal of argument about whether the Internal Market Bill breaks international law but that bill merely breaks clauses and sub clauses of the Agreement, which is to have one's cake and eat it.There can be no argument at all that it is possible to repudiate an entire treaty. Countries have been doing it since the word treaty was invented. Certainly, it is harder these days with the Vienna Convention but it is still possible and that is what HMG should be doing.By ridding of us of the shackles of what has been rightly described as a surrender document, an agreement drawn up by a weak government against the background of the other party being determined to punish us for leaving, Boris could lead a truly independent Britain. Isn't that what he wants?'The Big Brexit Initiative' gathers pace, as public backs it (but BBC says nothing)Ms Widdecombe's article above comes on the back of the publication yesterday of "The Big Brexit Initiative". The BBI brings together the largest-ever number of major Brexit campaigning groups, uniting behind a simple message to the PM and MPs.BREXIT FACTS4EU.ORG SUMMARY?All logos are © of each organisation16 major Brexit organisations, a former Minister of State, five professors, and 13 former MEPs have all signed The Big Brexit Initiative.Never before have so many major Brexit campaigning organisations combined behind one message to Government. Collectively these organisations reflect the views of millions of voters who took the PM at his word that there would be no political alignment with the EU."We call on you, Prime Minister, to rescind and void the Withdrawal Agreementin order to deliver on your General Election manifesto promises of December 2019,or else face millions of voters who will feel utterly betrayed.""Please do not let the country down"- 16 Brexit organisations, including Facts4EU.Org, The City for Britain, and the Bruges Group, plus 25 key individualsYou can download the entire letter to the Prime Minister here.Yesterday members of the public started sending the Big Brexit Initiative letter to No.10 and to their MPs. Today we must ramp up the momentum.BREXIT FACTS4EU.ORG SUMMARYWhat can ordinary voters do?Today we are urging all those who voted for a free, independent, and sovereign United Kingdom to stand up and be counted. If you would like to do something positive to help, there are two things you can do:-?© No.10?© ParliamentLetter to the Prime MinisterPlease sign and sendLetter to your MPPlease add his/her name, your details, sign and sendThe Big Brexit Initiative letterThe voter's 'MP letter' versionYou can find your MP's contact details here.OBSERVATIONSAnn Widdecombe has a deserved reputation for saying what she thinks. Like what she says or disagree with it, you know where you stand with 'Widders', as she is affectionately known in Brexit Party circles. The momentum for the Big Brexit Initiative is building. With so many Brexit organisations and high profile individuals backing it, we very much hope that all voters who wish to see a free, independent, and sovereign United Kingdom will send letters and emails to No.10 and their MPs, insisting that the abominable Withdrawal Agreement and Political Declaration be rescinded and voided. Finally, this Initiative has taken a great deal of effort and time. An historic transatlantic trade deal that turbocharges growth and prosperity will be signed, sealed and delivered regardless of tomorrow's election result, US Ambassador Robert "Woody" Johnson has told the Daily Express.Writing exclusively for this newspaper the 73-year-old diplomat said: "President Trump prioritised a free trade agreement with the UK because it is the fastest way to increase prosperity for both our countries.?Post-Covid, this will be even more critical."We?still have a few things to iron out, as is always the case with major agreements like this one, but I'm confident our countries can get this done no matter what happens today.".... something from the Express. Hopeful anyway... but we'll see.
