Personally I think Putin should arm "black lives matter" and let them get on with ridding the US of the ageing far right white old fart rednecks.

We'd all be susceptible to catching Bubonic plague if it were to reoccur here.

K38, there is one difference to here and New Zealand and other places, in a word "density". Due to the size of the country, birth rates and immigration we are living on top of each other and that's why lockdown wont work. When we come out to play again so will covid. Quarantine is the isolation of the sick not those that are fit and well. In this case old folk that are the most susceptible. Isolate them for 3 or 4 weeks and family/friends respect it and keep away, prioritise their medication and food delivery. The rest that are fit and well get out there, get back to work.
Yes there will be some that will get it worse than others and likely be some deaths but no more even perhaps less than stop start way that will effect other ailments and suicides cos folk have lost their business or jobs. Lockdown doesnt imo take into account human misery due to economic crash. End of rant.

Biden-Harris tax plan, which would result in a top tax rate of 62% in New York City.

There was no vaccine for Bubonic plague, just treatment.

Antibiotics are/were effective.

gbh - a very good read on the subject over a coffee. Herd immunity as you would expect seems a concept in cattle.

It's a short lived virus so if you have recovered you can't infect others after a week or so. If 50% of the population have had it, it would be very difficult for it to spread.

Lockdown is a terrible strain on health and economy.
That’s why limited, local lockdowns are better than total lockdowns, as they found out the first time. Also, financially, they shot their bolt last time and everything is dependant on the economy, welfare payments, NHS, jobs, food etc.

So far, around the world it looks like the simple formula is:

number of infected x 4% = number of deaths in 6 weeks time.

Doing nothing I.e. letting it run riot for a few weeks could be devastating. If the above formula holds true and in 6 weeks time we will be immeasurably worse off.

Unless of course, you believe that it’s nearly over and not many more people will die.
With a 1% infection rate, I doubt it. Also I guess that a vast amount of the population have underlying medical conditions. A sad indictment of modern living.

New coping strategy would be good and it will probably take lots of different options.

Maybe there will be a new normal for a period. Period = 1 to 1000 years.

Are you sure? What was the name of the vaccine that saw off the bubonic plague?
Just heard a positive idea from Sir Richard Leese. 20% of the cost of lockdowns would effectively shield the vulnerable. Good to hear effective coping strategies

Name a Virus that we've ever developed herd immunity to, even the old viruses which have disappeared from the UK have done so due to Killing the virus off in the early days of mass vaccination.

How long does it last? The same question could be asked of the effects of lockdowns.

Maybe, maybe not. What I do know is that during this epidemic far more people have died from various forms of cancer due to lack of care due to total focus on covid. In wales (without trivialising it )the death rate currently is in single figures. The number of patients on ventilators is 30 and the numbers havent increased for 3 weeks. Our political class seems to be suffering from tunnel vision.

The trouble is, according to latest figures, 740k last night, only just over 1% of our population has, or has had the virus. That’s a long way from herd immunity. If any sort of immunity can be achieved. And how long does it last, 90 days, a year.
Who knows?

The government should have restricted access to hospitals and care homes, isolated anyone and their household who receives the flu jab or is high risk and let everyone else crack on. We would have had herd immunity by now.

Wasnt really my thinking. Was wondering how long it would take organise one and if the politicians dont honour the result then whats the point.

Not sure I was saying lockdowns dont work. I was making the points that how long can they last and what happens when they end.Are they a long term solution. There seems little discussion of this. Not really sure whats happening in China its a bit of a one off. Maybe New Zealand is too, and Sweden and Chile (one of highest death rates and yet most severe restrictions). Again my point is why such little discussion about how to live with something that may be here for a long time

"The Emails Are Russian" Will Be The Narrative, Regardless Of Facts Or Evidence

Virtually the entirety of the Democratic Party-aligned political/media class has streamlined this narrative of Russian influence into the American consciousness with very little inertia, despite the fact that neither Joe nor Hunter Biden has disputed the authenticity of the emails and despite a complete absence of evidence for Russian involvement in their publication.
