Oh dear, Brussels! Japan trade deal puts EU on alert - UK hand strengthened in Brexit row

BRUSSELS Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier has been warned after Boris Johnson's Government signed a £15.2billion trade deal with Japan.

The European Union's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier has been at a stalemate with the UK for months over trade talks. But the latest post-Brexit trade deal with Japan has sent a stern warning to Mr Barnier that the UK is ready for a no deal, a Brexiteer former MEP has claimed. International Trade Secretary Liz Truss said it is a "historic moment" for the two countries which will bring "new wins" for British businesses in the manufacturing, food and drink, and tech industries.

Andrew Rayner11 Sep 2020 1:18PMOh dear oh dear oh dear...poor Rejoiners. Since we have Nissan in Sunderland...what do you think that does to the German car industry. Oh...so the EU is our largest export market? Er...well we're the EUs largest customer sooooooo when we buy Japanese cars instead of German...Sounds like someone in government has the politics of this kinda sussed. First news of first trade deal kinda timely given the current situation with the EU eh?So much for the UK being dead. We've always been a trading nation and can start being so again. Not being hamstrung by the EUs intransigent rules allows the UK to be economically nimble. It would serve the EU well to take advantage of a strong neighbouring economy. Especially since the economies of the EU have been stagnant for 20 years.

. Each day the UK sees what the EUSSR is really like. The EUSSR is like a drug addict telling us to go to Hell. Venting fury that we are no longer allowing the EUSSR be dependent on us. We are no longer giving the begging EUSSR more money to feed the addiction. Now the EUSSR is showing its true colours and wants quarrels and war and Hell stuff. Enough.Let the EUSSR do its own defence. No DealWTO

Funny to read all the negative comments from the Remoaners here, but then that's the difference, isn't it: Remoaners defeatist negative; Leavers optimistic positive.

3 months to secure the Japan deal.

“The U.K. has not engaged in a reciprocal way on fundamental EU principles and interests.”

Can't say just how much this irritates me.

If anyone hasn't engaged in such a way it is the EU, wanting to strangle UK in perpetuity by tying us into their rules & regs("Level playing field")

The EU hasn't not negotiated in good faith since the off.

I will never knowingly purchase any European goods going forward nor will I ever holiday in Europe - Africa, Americans and Asia are far nicer anyway.

In reality we have already lost more than that 0.07% to be gained by businesses shying away from the UK because of the trust issues shown this week.

Critics said while the deal may be of symbolic importance it would boost UK GDP by ➡️ only 0.07% ⬅️, a fraction of the trade that could be lost with the EU.

ROFLMAO!

Speak to Alphorn nicely and he could have increased the GDP by a similar amount by ordering a couple more cars from JLR.

Guffaw guffaw.
