By the end of this week, the Democrats and republicans will have done a deal, the US and China spat would have settled with equal reprisals, and fade.
Its going to be noisy though up to November as trump will lose if it's the status quo.

Lots of things have contributed to decay in society Gecko. You forgot to add Thatcher and her ilk and the continually screwing down of funding over the years which the Tories are very good at.

Tories still find billions for their build sector mates and sponsors I see.

Where is the 'building for the future'?

If the gov is seen to interfere too much with banks or any other business, then it will be counter productive, as investment money will just move from the UK to the EU, US, Asia or elsewhere. The UK has to compete to get investments against all these places, you have to make it attractive.
Don't forget the gov are still approx 30bn? into NWG with their current stake. Getting involved there was/is proved very painful, was their buy price 500p area? They will get out of there with a loss no doubt.
And when companies are nationalised, they just become cost heavy, have strikes and are run inefficiently.
Not how you want your banking system to head forward into the 21st century.

Why would a head teacher come on a morons' web site like ADVFN?

I would have hoped head teachers had more about them to stay away from worrying about oil sector investments and all that. I would have hoped they valued better things like making sure kids get back on track with their studies and the school library is well equipped. Writing to their MP, double-checking health and safety etc.. etc..

Oh no, let's see how my shares are doing. Eh? FFS!

It horrifies me to think a head teacher browses ADVFN on a Monday morning and sadly reflects the calibre of people we now have in the teaching profession.

Of course Teachers get paid for only 39 weeks work - they're on holiday for the other 13 weeks!!

Summer holidays. 8-9 weeks off right there last time I looked.

Not sure what the issue is - 39 weeks worked, pay paid over 12 months.

My daughter's uni lecturers have spent the last 3 years whinging and striking over pensions.

What is it with these people?

They don't recognise when they are on the gravy train.

very positive and informed comments hammy...makes a change for this bb.Many thanks.

But who exactly,in your opinion, will restrain Bailey from doing his worst to the banks whenever he can? And what about the fragrant Meghan Butler , who would clearly like the entire system of finance in this country to be nationalised?

I believe she was Head of Enforcement.

Logic seems to have gone out of the window completely when the Morning Star is recommending its comrades to buy the banks.

Is that a good or a bad sign?

Who cares when you are paid and when you are not, and how the yearly cake is divided?

£38025 for 9 months work is what it boils down to.

Annualise that up for 12 months work and it is very good pay for what the job entails IMO.

Most teachers are overpaid and overrated.

Most of them are snowflake types who take great offence at any suggestions or comments they don't like and have a deluded sense of their own abilities and knowledge because they are teachers. Take them out of their comfort zone (subjects they teach) and they are positively lacking.

No they're not- most schools ran a rota system but when a teacher wasn't in they were working from home- this included zoom lessons, planning, answering child and parent queries either by zoom or email, battling with risk assessments if you were a teacher with leadership responsibilities- or organising recovery curriculums for the huge gaps that children are going to have to deal with in September- some teachers also had to get involved with SEN issues such as dealing with police, social workers and educational psychologists by Skype. End of year reports needed writing for their work up to March and some schools even asked teachers to deliver them as they cannot afford postage.

Its profits went down last year because it set aside extra for tail end of PPI.
But 4bn or 5bn a year profit, I can handle the difference. They were both up on the previous years.

I was of the impression that schools were closed to about 90% of pupils surely 100% of teachers arent required for 10% of pupils?
