Householders face up to five years in prison if they burn recycling during collection cutbacks

Some councils have already started to cut back collections due to the coronavirus pandemic and are focusing on rubbish destined for landfill

Householders are being warned that they face up to five years in prison if they burn recycling because councils have cut back their regular bin collections.

Some councils have already started to cut back collections to focus on rubbish destined for landfill. More services are expected to be cut this coming week as the coronavirus lockdown continues.

Last week the Government said in official guidance that councils could start to cut back on kerbside collections of recycled waste or garden waste to focus on picking up black bin rubbish and food waste due to staff shortages.

However, neither the Government nor the Local Government Association would say how residents are expected to dispose of recycling as it starts to build up, instead warning of the penalties for burning excess rubbish and fly tipping....

I agree aljm. My other half and I both caught CV from the same person on the same day and although at first We thought it was a bad cold, it was nothing like any cold/flu I have ever had before. My husband was worse than I was but our symptoms came and went in tandem. All sense of taste and smell went at the same time and came back at the same time. We almost coughed at the same time....not quite that synchronised but it was weird.

elbee, it isnt flu, i have had it, it is something very odd, i have never felt like i did when i had Covid, it is very difficult to describe, but all the time i had it, i kept feeling it didnt feel 'natural' hard to explain what i mean by that, but it was almost predictable, my whole family had it, wifey started it first, mine started @ 12 hrs later, and the weird thing was, when she got a different symptom, i got the same @ 12 hrs later, very very odd.

Hi people. Boris used Hydroxychloroquine & Zinc to recover, if it is good enough for him, why is it not good enough for the UK ?? How do i know? Trump spoke about it last night, that combination is incredible, it has to be made available for everyone.

This is more like a tweet from Minnie than from the Europe Editor of the Economist! The guy needs to resign, or better still the Economist needs a clear out.

“This is not someone who was at death’s door a few days ago. Something incredibly fishy about the whole business.”

They're not satisfied with merely being anti-Brexit, they're now anti-Boris - or maybe always were, I dunno,

Tackling povertyBy JOHNREDWOOD | Published: APRIL 14, 2020The government has long held the view that the best way to combat poverty is to help people into jobs. It is easier to get to a better paid job from a starter job than from no job at all.The government had been very successful at creating the right conditions for many more jobs to be created. This Parliament was meant to  be about securing more and better training for the many, so they can get better paid jobs. Business will work smarter as the workforce becomes better trained, and  better supported with technology. The current surge in unemployment is a most unwelcome interruption in this policy. People who lose their jobs or who are told they can no longer earn from their self employed businesses are suddenly plunged into poverty through no fault of their own. Many did not earn enough to save for a rainy day, and have no other sources of cash or income to fall back on. It is all very well for senior civil servants and Ministers with well paid jobs to tell them they  must not work. They can afford to because they will still be paid, and can work from home in many cases. It is vitally important we end the rise in unemployment as soon as possible. If we can start the return to work soon  we may be able to retrieve the position more quickly. If we stay in Lock Down Britain for too long more of these  jobs will be lost for good. The UK needs more productive capacity. We need to make more things for ourselves and grow more of our own food. This needs more all the companies and entrepreneurs we now have and more besides.

"Are the deaths in rest homes etc. not counted in official statistics in the UK?""Surely that cannot be correct -- deaths in the homes must have a death certificate"?© Brexit Facts4EU.OrgReply to reader 'Ross', from the Brexit Facts4EU.Org teamDear Ross, thank you for your question which you posted below our article yesterday, in response to a post from a critical reader.According to the latest week of data we have from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) of deaths involving the Coronavirus, 92.9% occurred in hospital with the remainder occurring in hospices, care homes and private homes. Naturally the ONS counts all deaths wherever they take place, as all deaths in the UK must be registered. The problem here is the time it takes to get a death certificate into the system. Here's a quick explainerThe ONS now publishes a weekly death report, which covers all deaths no matter where they took place. To make the picture more confusing for people, the Dept of Health also puts out daily figures for deaths "with Coronavirus". These are the ones which exclude non-hospital deaths, but the non-hospital deaths currently account for only 7.1% of total deaths "with Coronavirus" in all locations. We were the first to call on the Government to issue a daily tally of ALL deaths as well as deaths "with Coronavirus". We felt people should have this basic information in order to have a sense of the seriousness or otherwise of Coronavirus. We secured a partial victory in getting weekly totals, but sadly these weekly figures always lag behind the current reality. Nevertheless we publish the weekly figures as soon as we get them. Our next report on this will be tomorrow.FOR NEWER READERS If you would like to read our Coronavirus summaries to date, there is a list of them in this article available free here. Some of the charts put up by Sky and the BBC even confuse us, and we deal with statistics all day long.We spend considerable time trying to condense information into "at a glance" charts and bullet points. We know people do not have time to study a single chart for several minutes to work out what it's telling them.OBSERVATIONSLet's face it, none of us really like to talk about deathAside from the obvious fact that it reminds us of our own mortality, many people have recently experienced the loss of a loved one. This is certainly true of members of our team, who have lost close family members through one of the top three killer diseases in the UK.In normal times readers do not encounter many articles about death rates – it's not a subject that has traditionally been known to sell more newspapers. (Or encourage more donations to a hardworking team like ours.)We'll leave you with a questionEvery day the BBC tells us how many people have died "with Coronavirus". Does any reader know how many deaths take place each year from cancer? Or dementia? Or heart disease? We do. And the numbers will shock you.P.S. Please don't answer! Our question is rhetorical. We'll answer it ourselves in an article tomorrow, with one of our famous "at-a-glance" charts which convey basic information so effectively.P.P.S. We are also working on serious reports regarding the threat to delay the end of the Brexit Transition Period "because of the Coronavirus". We absolutely must stop the insidious and growing moves by the Remoaner-Rejoiner Establishment once again to seize on any excuse to thwart a full and true Brexit.
