Regular flu numbers should be down significantly with most countries imposing movement restrictions.

I guess I was considering the topic of national characteristics when I was not surprised that the situation and death rate in Germany is well below that of Italy.

We know all of this stuff about Germans being arrogant, British being tolerant, Italians being undisciplined, Americans being brash and confident, Russians being etc etc etc.

...well it is mostly hogwash if you have ever met or worked with any of them.

Italians tend to be stylish, romantic, friendly, excitable and all of that other stuff written above.
I love the place.

Maybe this stuff about national characteristics is all wrong, so odd for anyone on this thread to argue for that.
Just a few short months ago the Brexit nutters were raging about the hated EU, the arrogant Germans, bankrupt Italians etc. They thought we British were a unique and superior species.

The same Brexit crowd are now defending our continental brothers. Excellent.

Hence the make shift hospital at London Excel?...and plans for more make shift Hospitals in other major Cities...

Surely we could be more selective about who we put in lockdown?

Not trying to compare the two. That would be stupid. As I posted previously last year total deaths in bergamo 56. First two weeks in March over 600. However imo it would be interesting to know whether this years deaths from flu have altered significantly possibly as a result of the CV

Unfortunately and quite sadly it’s those that are dying in the 3rd world countries to this dreaded disease.

Lock it all down and reset.
Stop thinking of your self interests.
This ain’t the flu and sooner everyone wakes up to this the better.

You can have more medical equipments and medical supplies and more hospital beds but not enough Doctors and nurses.

Careful, the army are already on the street. Time to wake up. Police are now seeking the ability to use tasers. I’d hate to be a shopper who moves up two places in a queue or who answers a police officer back when stopped for driving in their car.

Listen to the doctors and they will close don the World for a long time.
This will cause a depression and hardship.

This lockdown will be called off with 3-4 weeks is my guess.
We can't wreck a £2tr economy because of a flu type virus.
NHS will be fully capable by that time, extra equipment and clothing able to cope with 'peak' virus.
And the rest of us will have to learn to be sensible without government compulsion.

There will be civil unrest as is happening in Southern Italy, as reported yesterday, as people start to suffer.

If food shortages emerge in the UK then the Army will be needed.
The cure could soon become worse than the disease.

Look at bright side you may be able to buy more at lower price. Someone has predicted as low as 15p. I hope we do not see that. But anything can happen as MM can drive prices down 30% up or down the way it suits them Power of Big Bucks. We are very small fish in big oceans.

According to online articles. Its lockdown till June possibly October. This is going to cost an effin fortune there must be a better way? I cant understand why the whole country needs to go into lockdown if only 1% experience a severe reaction to it? Surely we could be more selective about who we put in lockdown?

Police signalled they would take robust action against acts of deliberate coughing over elderly or vulnerable people, as officers said they had been made aware of several such allegations.

Unbelievable.

I saw a doctor, can’t remember his name sorry. He said they are testing for seasonal Flu as BAU and the common seasonal Flu has now largely gone in Britain. So all CV labeled deaths, going forward should be related to CV although underlying issues will obviously have an impact.

The worrying thing is how many people, of all ages have underlying issues:
Smokers
Drinkers
Obesities
Allergies
Diabetes
Ooh and people who are ill or old.

Action is correct, more contagious than anything seen before hence why it’s spread so quickly.
They were able to jump on Ebola very quickly has not highly contagious but had been worried over the last 5years that something may develop that is. Shame they never heeded the WHO warnings.
All those comparing to common flu and flu deaths need to look at your televisions again, mmmmmm, how many people are taken into hospital and die on consecutive day after day. Deeeeeeeks.
Also if you have your finger on the button, look how many 30 and 40year olds without underlying conditions are being taken in to hospital.

That's a very good question diku. We know how many have died from CV. But how many have died from the regular flu? And are deaths from 'regular' flu about the same, much higher or perhaps importantly much less than usual ?
