I wonder how many of the self employed will be suing their accountants for massaging their profits down to zero over the last three years? Legalised theft. Will the tax system change now?

The spread in the ski resorts is an example as to how this virus is very contagious. People in very close proximity, breathing heavily after exercise and the cold air carrying the aerosols for all to see.
We need to see some clear evidence of infections peaking.

edit: the interesting outlier is Sweden which still has bars and restaurants open and no lockdown.

"we made a real mistake when we voted out"

Taken you a longtime to realise that max.

The position pack to start negotiations has not even been prepared by the UK and now 2 months overdue. A shambles and this part, self inflicted.

In the meantime, stay safe.

No divi from Lloyds would lead me into spending less and watching the coffers more carefully...it goes to making my OAP enough to live on. Without the divi things would be very tight here :-/

First lot of QE didn’t lead to inflation. There is no chance of us ever paying that back, and since the debt is owned by us there seems little point in doing so.

What the US is doing in giving every family $1500 may be more inflationary but in the current climate demand is very low.

I think my outgoings this week have been about £75. Typically my monthly credit card bill is about 2500, people will be saving huge amounts.

'banks continue to fund households'

So do dividends - either directly or indirectly (eg pension funds).

That's not to say that a year or so down the road we won't get some inflation. I do recall paying some 10%+ interest on my mortgage.

At least we have the Chancellor, Governor of the BoE and PM working together this time.

Careful - "The first signs will be a spike in HMG gilt yields, no one wants to leave money in the UK."

The government is buying long-dated gilts, so the price rises and the yield goes down.

What has happened to all drug gangs and turf wars? Is it all too visible now and is conducted in the sewers or are they just staying at home watching daytime TV.
The police must be stuck for something to do. If a chap is acting up, about thirty coppers turn up to tell him to go home. I suppose redeployment of service staff to help the NHS is a good idea.

At the moment doctors surgeries and accident and emergency wards are empty with everyone preparing for the onslaught. 30,000 empty beds at the last count. Where will it all lead and what, if anything will change after.

When you see how the virus spreads without restrictions on movement compared to with restrictions, one understands the need for restrictions.

A checkpoint in York where officers ensure motorists are complying with Government restrictions

Police chiefs are urging snoopers to use online “hotlines” to snitch on neighbours who are breaching the Government’s coronavirus lockdown.

Humberside has become the first police force to create a dedicated online “portal” where people can submit written tip-offs if they spot gatherings of more than two people.

Other forces including West Midlands, Greater Manchester and Avon and Somerset are urging the public to alert them to breaches using their established online forums rather than 999 or 101.

It has already seen one late-night house party in Coventry broken up by police and eight people “removed” and sent home after a neighbour tipped off West Midlands Police.

Went to tesco just before 6.oo this am.Number 20 in the queue which was starting to fill. All very civilised. All lined out airport style. 2ms between each. All individual. No moaning. (presumably all scroats and druggies still coming down or getting over hangovers ). Young lass wiping trolley handles. First hundred in then one in one out. Everyone keeping to around 2ms. Shelves not fully stocked by any means but ok. Well done tesco. It's good to see a bit of order

True, can you imagine coming out of lockdown and driving to work on brand new tarmac. What a pleasant start to the first day that would be!
