Funny, France used to say that we were "Bad Europeans" when we wanted the budget trimmed. I guess that the 'frugal four' don't fit that description, even though they're doing what the UK did. Funny old world.

There'll be some sort of diplomatic fudge agreed.

Mannie's a larf.

"An EU budget summit ended without agreement on Friday following a stand-off between wealthy "frugal" member states and other countries.

The so-called "frugal four" of Denmark, Austria, Sweden and the Netherlands said they would not accept a budget of more than 1% of the bloc's GDP.

France's Emmanuel Macron said it showed "we don't need Britain to show disunity".

There is also disagreement about how the budget would be spent.

The frugal countries want more spending on borders following the 2015-6 migrant crisis, climate change, security and digitisation.

The proposed compromise deal preserved rebates for net contributors such as Germany, included slightly more cash for agriculture to appease France and increased the share of spending on climate change to 27% - but was still rejected."

The continuing collapse of the car industryBy JOHNREDWOOD | Published: FEBRUARY 22, 2020Car sales in China fell 92% in the latest figures reflecting the closures and stay at home advice in that epidemic torn country. Meanwhile EU plans to accelerate the shift to electric cars is hitting diesel and petrol sales in Europe.Countries are falling over each other to cut demand for petrol and diesel vehicles with steep car purchase taxes geared to output of CO2. French sales fell sharply in January by 13% on the back of new higher taxes. UK diesel car sales are well down over the last year thanks to higher VED and threats of more taxes and regulations to come. Germany is imposing bans on older diesels from entering various cities. The new EU Commission intends to make a frontal assault on CO2 the centrepiece of its economic and industrial strategy.Even in the USA where the government does not share EU fervour against CO2 car sales fell last year. The industry is wrestling with the shift to electric, the more draconian environmental regulations, higher taxes and a strike by many buyers not persuaded by the new ideas. On top of this a new generation of urban dwellers doubts they need to own a car, whilst some look forward to a future when many more will hire a car when they need it, slashing the number of cars required to sit in the garage or in on street parking for most of their lives. It is unusual for governments to set out to damage a big industry like this in quite such a concerted way. It is even more unusual for the industry to accept it and to collaborate as freely with the demise of its existing products and method of working. I find it odd the industry in the UK lobbied so hard against Brexit which was not designed to damage it, yet does not lobby against the many EU policies determined to close all factories making diesel and petrol cars as quickly as possible. It means writing off huge amounts of sunk capital and firing many workers. It is also possible the winners in the electric car wars will be new companies.

'consumers at risk of being ripped off' - the whole thing is a scam and we ARE being ripped off. No doubt about it. People siphoning off all along the line.

If you are able,
save them a place
inside of you
and save one backward glance
when you are leaving
for the places they can
no longer go.
Be not ashamed to say
you loved them,
though you may
or may not have always.
Take what they have left
and what they have taught you
with their dying
and keep it with your own.
And in that time
when men decide and feel safe
to call the war insane,
take one moment to embrace
those gentle heroes
you left behind.

I have an idea for you
Send me £10k, and every 3 months I will send you, lets say …£125.
But if you want your £10k back in the next ten years you only get £5k returned
Deal??
I was looking at UK pension earlier today..see what I am due when I reach retirement age...£168.60 a week!
But if I wanted to I could "defer" it till a later date and then I would get a bit more.
Sounds like a good idea?
Well the example they give is if I/you/we defer the £168.60 for 52 weeks then there will be an extra £9.74 a week.
How does that sound to you old boys, good?
Yes great, it will only take you 17+ years to make back the 52 weeks that you "deferred".... will you make it to 82 years of age to reap your rewards?
Just have to hope that you get your LLOY capitol investment back before then.
