Personally, don't see debt impairment as a big issue in the current market, legal issues around Reading - be surprised if they are large and PPI was tackled end of last quarter (I hope!). Fingers crossed

There will have to be so many exemptions for this new immigration policy that it will be pointless. Still, the fact that there is this 'system' will appease the chimps and I'm sure Boris and Co will fudge the figures for the gammon audience.

Unless there are any unanticipated surprises it seems most commentators have a good handle on approximate numbers. In which case hopefully won't fall too far. Might even bounce off 55p. PPI likely £2.5bn for year. Other possible banana skins: debt impairment? Further legal claims?

"You mention that concerns have been raised about our approach to dredging. We will always dredge where necessary – but with rainfall of the kind we have seen, it would do little to protect homes and businesses. Our hearts go out to all those affected by the flooding, and we will continue to do all we can to keep people safe.

Emma Howard Boyd
Chairman, Environment Agency

from elsewhere

I live in the Lincolnshire fens and can confirm the efficiency of the local Drainage Board in managing water levels through well maintained drainage ditches, weirs and sluices to control the flow.

I have also heard locally of the Pode Hole rainfall records which are confirmed by local farmers' rainfall records.

Despite the implications of the Environment Agency, in this area there has not been an increase in rainfall. I don't have access to records in other areas but I would be surprised if they were much different.

Our local beck is kept clear and the banks were strengthened quite recently.

It has two weirs to hold back the flow so on the downstream side, in summer, there is no more than a trickle while the upstream side is deep enough to maintain wild life.

Over recent days the depth of the down stream side increased to around 4 metres, still within the banks. It was doing its' job, getting the water away quickly to prevent flooding.

It is a system that has worked, with modifications for hundreds of years.

The only flooding that I am aware of in this area was from the River Witham which is controlled by the E.A.

Says it all.

Give the Drainage Boards control of all the waterways!

Let me get this right. The Tories have plans to build 350k homes pa, build huge infrastructure projects such as HS2, a 3rd runway at Heathrow, reopen the Beeching lines, build flood defences, deal with the huge issue of social care, recruit teachers, police officers, nurses and doctors and so on.

Where will these workers miraculously come from?

I think they need to treble the budget with these new immigration rules!

We are going to have UK gilts in WeetaBix packets soon....

ROFLMAO!
