If fishing is irrelevant, why are the €U gammons making such a big thing of it?

Fishing in reality is an irrelevant side show.

Great for Gammon PR though.

There is no linkage between trade and fishing. Two separate subjects. The EU never made such demands of either Iceland or Norway.

Michael not Fred btw.

EU are ‘powerless’ to prevent Britain taking back our fisheries

"Boris Johnson has insisted that “British fishing grounds are first and foremost for British boats” and any agreement will be based on this understanding."

A former fisherman and emergency seaman for 45-years and staunch Brexiteer has

echoed the remarks of Tory peer Lord Michael Forsyth, saying the EU are “bluffing”

over threats to punish the UK if the PM refuse to compromise over fisheries.

He said the EU are “powerless” to prevent Britain from taking back the control of

our waters. Fred told the BBC’s Any Answers that the prime minister must not heed

to demands and threats from the EU to give up our waters.

The EU has said they will restrict access of the UK’s financial services should

the British prime minister refuse to back down over allowing them to fish in

British waters.

He said, “I don’t think we should give up any fisheries for finance services.

“We shouldn’t give up one square inch of our fishing area and we should pull as

much back as we can towards the UK.”

President Macron of France has made it clear fisheries must be on the table

otherwise negotiations will not be easy for Britain.

Every now and again, the French let down their guard and expose their true feelings about the British.

Actually seen it at first hand when a Frenchman told me what he thought about the British, believing that I was from a Scandinavian country - I was with some Scandinavian businessmen at the time.

He was sooo embarrassed when his mate put him right on my nationality.

Reference SIPPS...

Something that not all investors know is that if you anticipate holding US stocks the double tax treaty signed with the US allows dividend payments to be made into a SIPP without the US withholding tax deducted. However, it requires some bureaucracy which some brokers fail to process and hence US stocks in the SIPP get withholding tax deducted in those cases.

If this is important to you check with the broker before choosing them. I know HL support this.

“I always cheer up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument left.”

― Margaret Thatcher

..... the quote works for all arguments.

Not one of you managed to address the argument made.

Still, Brexiters are not alone, they have friends in the USA with exactly the same demographic and complaints but no EU to blame ....

... makes a rational person wonder why blame the EU?

Less Rather Than More Education
Lower Income Free Trade

My guess is lower education & thick as the strongest factor linking Trump and Brexit voters.
