"The first of these fights may be the one with the bigger financial implications, but it’s the second that could derail the whole show. Brussels has made it clear: no fish, no deal. Expect it to become increasingly clear in coming weeks where the leverage lies in these negotiations"
- Edward Evans

Reeks of Remoanerdom, and UK having no leverage.

Keir Starmers obviously done a strengths & weakness analysis of the shadow cabinet & come to the conclusion that ethnic minorities make the best MP's and who can argue when you've got political giants like Naz Shah & Diane Abbott in that bracket.

Heading down to Cheshire next week , alas Bredbury.

Hope you enjoy Bredbury, waited before replying to see if any other posters identified places to visit there apart from the legendary Bredbury Hall. Seems to be the only place of note.

Ferguson ferry fiasco: Nicola Sturgeon announced final contract price before negotiations finished, Holyrood inquiry hears

The First Minister announced that Ferguson Marine were the preferred bidders at £97m before negotiations had finished, a committee has heard

Nicola Sturgeon publicly announced the successful bidder and price of the disastrous Ferguson ferry contract before negotiations were even finished, a billionaire industrialist has told a Holyrood inquiry.

Jim McColl, the former owner of Ferguson Marine, won the contract to build two new CalMac ferries in 2015 despite his company’s £97 million offer being the highest.

A committee of MSPs heard that Mr McColl initially proposed £105 million for the job, but was left having to accept less after the First Minister unexpectedly revealed that Ferguson was the preferred bidder.

The premature announcement was the beginning of a production “mess” of the two vessels, which will be delivered several years late and at least £110 million over budget....

Damage to car industry confirmedBy JOHNREDWOOD | Published: FEBRUARY 5, 2020Today's figures show that over the last year to end January new diesel car sales in the UK collapsed, falling by 36%, as a result of the heavily negative attitudes towards diesels. Petrol car sales also fell, whilst battery and hybrid sales rose strongly from a small base. Fully electric vehicles are still only 2.7% of the market. In the month of January alone overall new car sales fell by 7.3%.It comes as no pleasure to report my forecasts proved accurate when I warned that the higher tax rates, squeeze on loans, new regulations and general hostility to diesels would do damage to the new car industry.

Good news..

"Coronavirus cases remain modest in U.S"
In an update released today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 293 Americans (previously 260) are under investigation for coronavirus infection, 11 positives, 206 negatives and 76 pending.

bet they're telling the facts unlike the Chinese it seems

As the Taiwan Times reports in a report first spotted by user @TheHKGroup, over the weekend, Tencent "seems to have inadvertently released what is potentially the actual number of infections and deaths, which were astronomically higher than official figures", and were far closer to the catastrophic epidemic projections made by Jonathan Read.

Just love this response from the female labour MP whose off the shoulder dress slipped even further.

"Hello. Sorry I don’t have time to reply to all of you commenting on this but I can confirm I’m not....
A slag
Hungover
A tart
About to breast-feed
A slapper
Drunk
Just been banged over a wheelie bin."

The gal's got a good sense of humour, so wtf is she doing on the opposition benches? Mind you, she did look as if she fitted those descriptions...

Sir Keir Starmer calls for all-BAME shortlists as he proposes major reforms to make Labour 'truly representative'"

Why not just set up a party for foreigners?
All positions to be filled by foreigners only.
See how it goes.

White haters to be deported back to their country of ethnic origin where they'd clearly be happier?

Sir Keir Starmer calls for all-BAME shortlists as he proposes major reforms to make Labour 'truly representative'

The Labour leadership frontrunner wants to change the law to allow prospective MPs to be drawn from shortlists of ethnic minority candidates

By

Sir Keir Starmer will push for changes to the law to enable Labour to select prospective MPs from shortlists made up of only ethnic minority candidates if he is elected leader.

Calling on Labour to become “truly representative”, the shadow Brexit secretary has unveiled a series of reforms to make the party more “open and respectful”, including establishing all-BAME shortlists.

The changes would be accompanied by new bursaries for candidates from underrepresented backgrounds and new “Labour Party College” to equip them with a political education and training to develop campaigning and leadership skills.

Whilst all-women shortlists are permitted under the Equality Act and have been repeatedly used by parties to increase female representation in Parliament, selection based on race is currently unlawful....
