So just remind me ...
"the EU is that it is hamstrung by a number of poorly performing members who are a net drain and so can't 'afford' to lose one of their best customers."

Eurozone trade surplus grows to €28B in October.
The Eurozone recorded a trade surplus in goods with the rest of the world of €28 billion in October, Eurostat reported on Tuesday.
The figure is both above expectations and above the trade surplus reported in October of 2018.

Exports of goods to countries outside the euro area amounted to €217.9 billion, an increase of 4.1% year-over-year, while imports from other countries stood at €189.9 billion, a fall of 3.2% YoY.

Meanwhile, the European Union's trade surplus with the rest of the world came in October at €2.2 billion compared with a deficit of €8 billion recorded in the same month a year earlier.

Exports up..imports down
That means selling more buying less..well thats got to be good for the UK yes.
Buy more from them, sell them less?

"trade surplus with the rest of the world"...LOOK
Even if you are a member of the EU..you can still trade with the rest of the World!!!

The 'position of strength' with the EU is that it is hamstrung by a number of poorly performing members who are a net drain and so can't 'afford' to lose one of their best customers. The UK on the other hand are a fast paced economy which once free of the EU shackles can soar like the Hawk...and once up there will leave a message for those with even limited edjamacation can recognise.
