Hope Boris gets some support from Merkel.

A hard nosed politician who grew up in East Germany will not be taken in by his bluster or charm.

Still don't see anything getting through parliament.

Labour want an election and will make some excuse for voting against.
SNP/LIB DEMS no chance.
Then there are the rebels in his own party, whatever the outcome.

If you add the numbers up, Mays deal failed to get through because it was not close enough to the EU.
But within the Tory party the ERG, about 100 of them did the damage.

Most so called remainers have accepted that we shall leave.
But with a deal like Mays.

It is Brexiteers that have moved the goalposts, to this no deal nonsense.
They are unlikely to get away with it.

The democratic wish of the public is for a deal type exit, and about 500 MP's.

I used to consider him to be a man of principle and ability but over Brexit he has gone totally mad. He really does want to destroy UK democracy, kick the voters in the teeth, destroy the Conservative party and give us Corbyn/Mc Donnall/SNP to destroy the economy.Meanwhile is the government going to do to get some real competition in banking so they cannot get aways paying 0.2% interest on deposits and charge about 400+ times more on overdrafts and lending even to solid customers. Where is the competition authority and the regulators?

I had not realised that Michael Gove was learning Swahili. This is what he said this morning:

"Well, we have to leave. We voted to leave ... I’ve made it clear throughout that we have to honour the vote. Politicians don’t get to choose the votes that they honour. People voted to leave. It is better to leave with a deal. That is the government’s policy. But if the choice is no Brexit or Brexit and no deal, then I would choose Brexit and no deal, and I’ve always been clear on that point".

Willoicc - Ireland has a long history with the English mainland; some of it chequered which is why there are deep divides. Confiscation of Catholic owned lands and absentee landowners, etc. The latter point btw differs depending upon the author.

Until about 1900 the greater part of the land in Ireland (97% in 1870) was owned and rented out to tenant farmers. A long history.

GB and Ireland were in a full political and economic union from the Act of Union until the Republic or Ireland became independent in 1922.

They 'joined' together again when both joined the EEC in the 1970's

For hundreds of years Great Britain and Ireland, and the UK and the Republic of Ireland, have been more closely aligned than any other countries in the EU.

It is a perfectly sensible solution that the UK and the Republic of Ireland should be granted a special dispensation for some sort of administrative UK/ROI Union after the UK leaves the EU.

It is only the intransigents of the EU that ridicules the idea.

Everyone talks about peace between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland and everyone wants good ongoing relations between the UK and the Republic of Ireland but every idea is dismissed because it does not suit the EU's aim of turning the UK into a satellite of the EU.
