28/7/2019 11:29 | PPI Total claims for Jan to May average about £330m per month. As I understand it Lloyds seems to be liable for about half the total (in fact confirmed in extract above £20bn of £40bn). So from the average above, Lloyds should be liable to close to £160m per MONTH. The analysts seem to have grossly miscalculated @ £160m per HALF YEAR! Or I have? From annual accounts: "At 31 December 2018, a provision of £1,329 million remained unutilised relating to complaints and associated administration costs." Given above, £160m * 8 months = approx £1.3bn. Seems about right to me, and if not, shouldn't be too far off. MU. | ![]() m4rtinu
28/7/2019 10:50 | Plug of the Bash Street Kids partnering up with Count Dracula - stories like that are music to a Brexiteer's ears! Why are these people so utterly lacking in self awareness? How many votes for Remain did Eddie Izzard lose for them, or John Major, or Tony Blair? These two will strike any normal person as right weirdos to be avoided at all costs. | ![]() grahamite2

28/7/2019 10:31 | Dont ask, dont get my pet Better to have tried than not try at all I WONDER HOW COMPLICATED IT WOULD BE TO SET CLAIM IN MOTION AND WHAT WOULD BE THE LIKELY REWARD PER CONTRACT PPI payouts higher than expected at Lloyds Bank Emma Dunkley July 28 2019, 12:01am, The Sunday Times Lloyds Banking Group is braced for a bigger-than-expected hit from payment protection insurance (PPI) claims as customers pile in for compensation before the end of August deadline. Analysts had expected the bank, led by António Horta-Osório, to suffer a bill of about £160m for the first half of the year, but a jump in claims means the cost is likely to be higher when it reports earnings on Wednesday. Lloyds has been the worst hit of the big clearers, having paid nearly £20bn to date. It is expected to report a profit of about £4.2bn for the first half, in line with the same period last year, but further PPI provisions would weigh on net profits. The scandal has cost banks over £40bn. Barclays and… gaffer73 28 Jul '19 - 08:56 - 3843 of 3844 0 0 0 It's a bit late to claim now, anyone who has waited till now is an idiot. | ![]() maywillow

28/7/2019 10:15 | Meanwhile, the termites are busy.. Philip Hammond backs Rory Stewart to lead charge against no‑deal Brexit Former cabinet ministers and millionaire donors are plotting to thwart Johnson’s Brexit strategy Tim Shipman and Caroline Wheeler July 28 2019, 12:01am, Rory Stewart is being lined up to lead a campaign to stop a no-deal Brexit, as former cabinet ministers and millionaire donors hold secret talks on the plans. Philip Hammond, who resigned as chancellor last week, is drumming up support for the campaign and wants Stewart — who had launched a spirited tilt at the Tory leadership that attracted support from young voters — to lead the charge. Stewart resigned last week as international development secretary over his opposition to Boris Johnson’s plans to pursue a no-deal Brexit. Hammond and his former cabinet colleague David Gauke, the former justice secretary, are said to be in talks about how to kick-start the campaign, which they hope will eclipse the People’s Vote calls for a second referendum.… More: | ![]() maxk
28/7/2019 10:14 | Bob - "Some even voted for her in the first place Poikka." Well, yes, they did, and when she was ordained even I threw my influential support behind her. Didn't last long, though. Sad thing is about her legacy, that having seen her fail to deliver, folk are less convinced that Boris will deliver; although I believe that that perception will quickly change. Hope I'm right this time. | ![]() poikka

28/7/2019 09:42 | That poll isn't even on YouGov's own site yet! Fair enough, The Sunday Times has paid for it. What you can see on the yougov site is the previous poll and, from that, the reason the figures don't add up to 100 - it's not Don't Knows, it's Greens and Others that are missing. The Labour Gain at LibDem expense is just a reversal of what happened in the poll before. The real story is that Boris is getting back the lost Conservative vote. Another interesting poll on "best PM" shows Boris at 38%, Corbyn at 20% and don't know 38%. There's not much doubt that getting rid of the dreary old bag has had a transformational effect. | ![]() grahamite2

28/7/2019 09:10 | Tories bounce to 10-point lead over Labour Caroline Wheeler, Deputy Politcal Editor July 28 2019, 12:01am, The Sunday Times A poll commissioned by The Sunday Times shows the Conservatives jumping six points since Johnson became prime minister on Wednesday to 31%, the biggest lead over the opposition in five months and the first time support has risen above 30% since April. 28/7/2019 09:06 | Boris Johnson vows no‑deal Brexit ‘by any means necessary’ War cabinet of six to deliver Johnson’s mission Tim Shipman, Political Editor July 28 2019, 12:01am, The Sunday Times Boris Johnson has set up a “war cabinet” to deliver Brexit “by any means necessary” by October 31 as a senior cabinet minister warned that there was “now a very real prospect” of no deal. In a dramatic shift Michael Gove, the minister responsible for no-deal preparations, said the government was “working on the assumption” that Brussels would not strike a fresh agreement. In a Whitehall revolution, Johnson will make every decision on Brexit policy with a team of just six senior ministers — all of them Brexiteers who support no deal. Starting tomorrow, the war cabinet — Gove; the chancellor, Sajid Javid; the foreign secretary, Dominic Raab; the Brexit secretary, Steve Barclay; and Geoffrey Cox, the attorney-general — will plot the nation’s course.
