Even if blowing a gale all the time, wind cant begin to charge all then cars, all the time.

And to do it reliably, it has been estimated that it would require around 200 new nuclear power stations, plus infrastructure to suit.

It's not a goer anytime soon.

iS THERE NOT A HYBRID SYSTEM THAT RECHARGES THE BATTERY AS IT GOES ALONG

ALSO THE COMPANIES THAT ARE INTO RECHARGING ARE OIL AND GAS MAJORS THAT OBVIOUSLY WILL NOT JUST RELY ON WIND AND SOLAR

it vill be a liddle bit of dis and a big bit of dat

also there will be hot air coming on steam

Shysters are CEO's who take £30M bonuses for just being at the helm of ship that is heading towards its destination ANYWAY.

Once we leave the EU, and if we continue to have a Tory government, you will see shysters alright. The floodgates will be open.

British banks have been hit by a surge in the number of customers trying to win compensation for mis-sold payment protection insurance ahead of a deadline that will close one of the industry’s most damaging scandals.

Some banks, including Lloyds and the Co-operative Bank, already highlighted an increase in speculative requests at their first-quarter results, but executives said the rate had accelerated since.

You charge your electric car overnight on off-peak electric, therefore wind turbines will not have to be turned off due to lack of demand.

Many don't need to invest at all here. I mean, how many years have you got left?

Go out and spend it and leave the thread to the younger generations.

Perhaps take out the women of your generation, like Widdecombe, on a date.

LOL

Anybody watched Ann Widdecombe speech video at EU assembly?...Farage sitting next to her was laughing his head off...worth watching...

Is this really the type of politicians we want to represent us? Not exactly statesman like is it? If she really had issues and that sort of emotion about fishing net sizes then one should have raised the issue politely and assertively many years' ago.

The Europeans are still our friends, no? This sort of attitude raises division and hate over things that could be properly addressed and resolved if we have better politicians.

Cheshire - I would add that it may become a question of who is the less weak. Eg Germany is slowing down but they won't be in isolation; IMO this slowdown is unlikely to be country specific. If that makes any sense.

Can anyone tell me where the electricity to charge all these wonderful electric cars is coming from?

Talking of eletric cars...about time the revving noise pollution from motorcycles/scooters/mopeds be addressed...they make too much unnecessary noise...and some motorcyclists just rev up to make themselves look butch...

On electric cars, i was hearing about the news on R4 this morning, and looking at the range of the various cars it goes from about 120 miles to 350 miles.

Charging from home point is the answer for of me and most of my neighbours, as most of our cars don't move more than say 30 or 40 miles a day.

The real issue is about the vehicles that do hundreds of miles a day, charging is relatively slow compared to filling up with petrol.

I filled up in a busy petrol station the other day and it was doing about 50 cars an hour, so in motorway service stations with current technology you would need literally thousands of charging points.

Hybrid still seems the answer for this vehicles until ultra fast charging can be done..

Anyway don't sell the oil shares yet...

Interesting Alphorn and sarkasm, seems market direction could hinge largely on Trump getting re-elected or not.
Trying to think when the last time a US President got voted out after only one term.

"Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is investing hundreds of millions of pounds to build a range of electric vehicles at its Castle Bromwich plant in Birmingham.

"The future of mobility is electric and, as a visionary British company, we are committed to making our next generation of zero-emission vehicles in the UK," said Prof Ralf Speth, JLR's chief executive."
