10/6/2019 12:14 | Not exactly true Careful if by property you mean assets in general. The US laws around the personal holdings of gold are worth studying. In 1933, Executive Order 6102 had made it a criminal offense for U.S. citizens to own or trade gold anywhere in the world (exceptions for some jewelry and collector's coins). These prohibitions were relaxed 'only' starting in 1964 – gold certificates were again allowed for private investors on April 24, 1964, and by 1975 Americans could again freely own and trade gold. A key principle, but subject to change! Key, but you can change the locks! | ![]() alphorn

10/6/2019 12:08 | The attitude that "allowing" people to keep their own money is somehow some sort of "reward" is truly grotesque. There are some people with shocking views on this board. | ![]() grahamite2

10/6/2019 12:07 | Oh yes, free market capitalism. A system where individual property rights are key and the state can keep its filthy fingers off/OUT UNTIL it fails, and fails miserably, and the individual property owners then look to the state to bail them out. Hypocrisy of the highest order. Come on careful. Do try harder. Privatise profits, socialise losses. Is that how it goes? ROFLMAO! | ![]() minerve 2

10/6/2019 12:03 | Yea Yea !! Jezza Hunt . . . . is HE our next PM??? Great ideas and succinct presentation. Head and Shoulders above Horrible Boris!!! | bbalanjones
10/6/2019 12:00 | Boris Johnson was not talking about giving higher rate taxpayers a reward. He was planning to take less of their money away from them. There is a difference. Some have defined the real difference between socialism and capitalism. In socialist societies you should assume that everything belongs to the state and you must fight hard to keep more what you earn and own. In a free market capitalist society, property rights are powerful and it is the state that must make a strong case for taking away what is rightfully yours. As you must know individual property rights are a key principle in the American Constitution. | ![]() careful

10/6/2019 11:47 | Is NI a different thing from Income Tax or isn't it? It's claimed to be different because it specifically provides for unemployment benefits and pensions. Pensioners don't need or get unemployment benefit, and it would be an absurdity for them to use part of their pension to pay that same pension; so how could it possibly make any sense for them to pay NI? | ![]() grahamite2

10/6/2019 11:42 | Those JRM and other (Tory) comments are trivialising what is a serious subject. Drugs today are a very serious issue and by implying that they are not for certain classes of people is just not acceptable. | ![]() alphorn
10/6/2019 11:37 | CtR #919. My comment was related to the 'buying' of a particular section of voters. A section that is already relatively well off. | ![]() alphorn

10/6/2019 11:29 | careful is talking total sense this morning (i.e. agreeing with me!) One of the many faults in Mrs May's monstrous and idiotic platform was that it was totally pointless - "they still hated her." And it's good to be reminded that "when Nigel Lawson reduced the top rate of tax to 40% his tax take went up significantly." Of course the left don't care about this as they aren't interested in revenue. Envy and hatred are their guiding principles and they just want to hurt "the enemy," i.e. anyone who is doing a little bit better than they are. Boris should be talking of abolishing the 45% rate. | ![]() grahamite2
10/6/2019 11:29 | There are those earning good money that pay tax. There are those that work steadily and pay a little. And the remainder receive benefits and pay no tax. The political riddle is; How much do we take off the winners to give to the losers? At the same time we must make the wealth cake grow bigger. We need to be able to afford about £160bn for the NHS for example. HMG spends about £800bn per year. If we taxed successful business and people too much so that we can give billions to the poor it would all vanish. Never kill the goose that lays the Golden eggs. | ![]() careful
10/6/2019 11:22 | Any of these scummy characters in this stitched up leadership race can look forward to a return to the Thatcher era. Civil Unrest, Vandalism, Strikes and a serious increase in Violent Crime...... | ![]() ladeside
10/6/2019 11:19 | Why is Britain divided and getting more angry. "We had a referendum, but the losing side refuses to honour it. We are therefore stuck in a political groundhog day; forced to replay the same exhausting, exhausted arguments over and over again. 2 years on- tempers are fraying" Absolutely sums it up. | crossing_the_rubicon
10/6/2019 11:18 | jacko7 I don't lie, I don't need to. I'm confident in my own ability and what I have achieved. I don't really care what a second-hand car salesman like you thinks, or anyone on this thread for that matter. Most of you are a bunch of has-beens and life losers. There are a few exceptions, but only a few. | ![]() minerve 2 |
