Step forward the Good Folk who really Love their Country!!!

'Cancel Brexit' petition passes 1m signatures on Parliament site'

"Fastest growing registered petition EVER."

. . . . . . a liitle more salt in the wound please:-

In December, the European Court of Justice ruled that the UK can unilaterally revoke Article 50 of the Treaty of the European Union.

This means the UK can decide to stay in the EU without the consent of the 27 other member states.

You are so simple-minded grahamite2 it beggars belief sometimes. I sometimes wonder how on Earth you made any money to come on ADVFN to look where to spend it. Did you come into some inheritance or something?

If the legislators are not the servants of the people the country is not a democracy.

Lots of homeless actually prefer to be on the streets and refuse shelter even when it is offered to them..

As to putting money into local councils, I'd be more inclined to do that when we see an end to job adverts in The Guardian for Chief Paperclip Counters at 55 grand a year!

When people invest in shares, they have a 'pain' threshold.

If the shares goes below the pain threshold, they sell.

When countries find the value of their sterling holdings go below their 'pain' threshold, they will sell sterling.

That will cause sterling to crash.

The only option then open to the government will be to cancel Sterling and issue a new currency.

Then the fireworks will really start.

it's more likely today's weakness is simply due to the increased possibility of a no-deal brexit

Fix our roads, take the homeless off the streets, put money into our local councils, Health Service and Schools and then I might agree that we were a "rich nation", however at the moment I certainly couldn't agree with the "country being rich".

'one day all these people we owe money to are going to wake up and demand their money'.

First we are not bankrupt. Our National debt is well under 1 years GDP.
That is equivalent to having a mortgage of under 1 years salary at low rates of interest.

The debt is government bonds, ultra safe zero risk, because we have our own currency. We cannot go bankrupt because we print our own money.
If investors sell the yield automatically goes up and buyers move back in.

Far from bankrupt, some think that we should increase debt massively as the USA and Japan do to spend on whatever we wish.
Hammond's sensible approach is called 'austerity'.Corbyn plans to spend billions more.
The are calling this NET (New economic theory) because it seems to be working in America.

The UK is very rich by any measure. Helped by a great deal with the EU. But that is another story.

willoic,I agree with your brexit views, but this is just nonsense

"The UK is bankrupt. Our internal deficit is getting larger and larger every year. Likewise our accumulated balance of payments deficits.

One day the people we owe all this money to are going to wake up and demand their money be repaid to them."

Of course they will. They cannot wait for the Tobin tax to reduce trading volumes which they make so much profit on.

The City will strike its own agreement with the EU irrespective of the manner of leaving. Be in no doubt about that.
