People have every right to filter who they want. When they start requesting others do the same is it showing a belief that others haven't got independence of thought? That perhaps agrees with what I believe is happening here: herd mentality and all that.

“If there be time to expose through discussion the falsehood and fallacies, to avert the evil by the processes of education, the remedy to be applied is more speech, not enforced silence."

Lloyds in rude health, says Interactive Investor

Lloyds (LLOY) profits may have marginally fallen short of expectations but 2018 results show a bank in ‘rude health’ with a ‘clear vision’, according to Interactive Investor.

Analyst Richard Hunter hailed the bank’s streamlined business model and market-leading digital presence, and analyst Richard Hunter said a £3 billion investment into the business should reap benefits as it moves into financial planning via a tie-up with fund group Schroders.

He noted post-tax profit was up 24% and net interest margin had improved. ‘Negatives within the results are few and far between,’ he said.

‘The share price has suffered in a way the company has clearly not. This therefore leads to the dilemma of whether investors should take the plunge, since in the event of a positive Brexit result, the stock would surely be subject to a significant reappraisal.

‘The market certainly seems to think so – the current consensus of the shares comes in at a strong “buy”.’ The shares jumped 4.7% to 61.1

These labour/tory MPs having a get together is a most obvious and predictable reaction to farages brexit party aspirations.

grahamite - don't you think that there are some serious 'ills' in the current parties? Whether this will be a catalyst or not to do something about it - IMO it needs sorting. A dreadful situation that could cost dearly.

Leaving the Party you have loved and served should normally be a solemn affair, even tragic, something to be done only in extremis when there is no other choice. This is the way it looked with the Labour defectors - a decision absolutely forced on them and taken with a heavy heart.

In stark contrast the three former Conservative ladies were seen grinning like schoolgirls out on some jolly beano. Clearly leaving the Party comes for them as nothing but a relief and a joy. It follows they never were Conservatives in any way.

"m4 - an excellent post that really covered the waterfront."

Well, could have been.

"And anyone who doesn't filter 'M' needs their ...."

I question his beliefs on freedom of speech. He is certainly a pseudo-communist because comments like that come straight out of China.

diku (think you) Yesterday you asked about bull/bear at the same time. Well, premiums are still settling post results but writing a straddle today would give north of 15% pa yield. I have the bull positions in place but will wait a while for the bearish side.

Goldie - I am quite happy to talk about Lloyds share price and issues affecting it, as I did yesterday. But I occasionally, perhaps too often get dragged into the political debate.

FWIW I am a left-wing Labour supporter and a Remainer. Not sure even that position is tenable. JC wants out really. EG I am anti Israel foreign policy but don't feel this is in itself is anti-Semitic. On the ISIS girl, I believe we will have to follow international law and if that means accepting her back then she will have to face consequences of her actions. I was amazed J R-M shares this view!

The reason I responded as I did, was to offer balance to your view. I believe we will "leave" EU but hopefully not under May's "deal" or with "no deal". I am concerned about people losing their jobs (even if only in the short term) if we crash out. I would not like to be "collateral damage", so don't think anyone else should be either.

Leavers are just as guilty of clogging up the thread.

Finally, I believe we should have stayed in and worked for change. With a possible ally in Germany, we could have dictated (poor word but ...) the course of the EUs future and to our advantage. Cameron's half-hearted effort to try and get a few concessions was never going to work. It is a long game.

I do agree there are plenty of bores on here; many of which I have filtered. And anyone who doesn't filter 'M' needs their .... My interests and hobbies are: ...

Cheers MU

Don't let Minerve bother me kkclimber cos I suspect he's a Brexit secret agent and a very good one at that. Certainly manages to bring out some good comment from the brexiteers.
