The US blew up the Nordstream pipeline to ensure Germany buys its gas from the US and to cut off a revenue stream for Russia. It's crippling the German economy. Mass immigration and near zero growth is hurting, yet the DAX is in la la land. Funny old world innit. I understand that money has to go somewhere but I just don't see any growth in the UK economy and Europe is looking poorer by the year. US credit card debt is at an all time high and insolvencies increasing at an alarming level.
I'm with Buffet, I just can't see where to buy and like Buffet, I'm only invested in money markets until such a time we see a turn around. I've been in and out of LGEN and Aviva a few times and made modest profits, but for now I'm staying in cash/money ETF's.

She said today "I'm absolutely committed to the farming community"
She really meant to say she'll have them committed!

Szu Ping ChanEconomics Editor20 November 2024 11:34am GMTA surge in borrowing and "sluggish" growth have pushed the eurozone to the brink of debt crisis, the European Central Bank (ECB) has warned. The ECB said investors were becoming increasingly concerned about government borrowing across the single currency bloc, which has barely grown in recent years. In its latest financial stability review, it said:"Headwinds to economic growth from factors like weak productivity make elevated debt levels and budget deficits more likely to reignite debt sustainability concerns."...Daily Telegraph.

Tax it and loose it! The godamn Empire was lost because of it, when will they ever learn! Tax the produce it yields! Selling off land to pay IHT will just shrink harvesting and widen real estate!
The landed gentry and the middle classes are the bastions of the British culture. Look at the backgrounds of the current front bench and squirm!
Angela Rayner issuing CPO's to acquire framing land in the hitherto hallowed green belt for her cheap and cheerful housing!

John Redwood@johnredwoodRemoving the pensioner fuel allowance saves £1500m and taxing family farms on death brings in £500 m. They hurt the people affected a lot but make a small difference to public finances. The Bank of England gets subsidised by more than that every month for its runaway losses.5:50 am · 20 Nov 2024

ref the farmers

I saw Starmer last night on TV.
he said the farmers get a special deal, only 20% tax and 10 years to pay.

That really is a sweetheart deal, everyone else should get the same deal.
I did not know about the 10 years.

Min Ping .
OMG you are really thick. Brown selling the gold would have been nothing to do with left or right in politics but presumably because he thought the price was going lower at that time whenever it was . I notice thick Tories referring to that lately . perhaps Brown was not a CHARTIST :)

It is not income it is a capital gain.
If you sold it would be taxed differently from income.
Really scruff I am surprised at you on a financial thread.

Looks like Inflation is having a dress rehearsal for the opening night of the Raving Rache's Spectacular in April. One thing about Labour they are as predictable as day and night.

Take issue there Ming (though I suppose its only semantics or accountants smoke). I bought most of my physical gold at under £700. I could sell it today at over £2000. Thats £1300 income in my book. Call it unearned income if you will. Add to the smoke - I could do that every month for over 2 years. That could be getting on for twice the state pension which I assume is classed as income.
