Inherited wealth is the foundation of civilization. The vast majority of people must devote themselves to earning a crust, but we need some who can stand and stare, who can devote themselves to abstract thought and to music and art and literature.

Boris has failed on COVID. Fact.

I could have done much better. I know I could. It is a FACT.

In fact, if I was running this country. We would no longer have it.

I have a brain and can use it. I can't be bought. I don't run agendas for puppet masters.

Three advantages I have over the Prime Monkey.

On Sunderland, the UK have just been welcomed into some trade block with the Japs and Vietnamese amongst others. I think its responsible for about 19% of global GDP or somat and growing (unlike EU). Read somewhere of a tuktuk factory planned for Barrow aswell.

Do you know the Tories have nationalised nuclear decommissioning and have also nationalised the AWE?

LOL

Pathetic bunch of hypocrites.

Look for the excuses to be posted from the resident chicken livers.

Utricky

What's that you are saying 'chicken liver'?

No point lambasting the left when you have The Monopoly Guy representing your corrupt and incompetent party.

Even Corbyn would have managed COVID much better than this bunch of clowns.

Obviously the 'chicken liver' hasn't been following Rishi this last 12 months.

In today's brief: Turbocharged Nissan commits to Sunderland and declares Brexit a 'positive'. Meanwhile, SNP embrace Brexit freeport plan in screeching U-turn as Barnier warns of risk for more 'Brexits' whilst acknowledging Britain's plans to diverge from EU rules. Nissan deems Brexit deal an opportunity: The Chief Operating Officer at Nissan has said that the Brexit trade deal is a positive development and could turbocharge sales for the company and transform the British car industry. The Japanese car maker has said that its Sunderland plant is secure for the long term and that it will source more batteries from Britain in the future. He said: "Brexit for Nissan is a positive. We'll take this opportunity to redefine the auto industry in the UK. In certain conditions, our competitiveness is improved. For some of the cases, it is at par. It depends on which car, but competitiveness is definitely improved in electric vehicles.""Sunderland is one of the top three plants in the world for competitiveness for Nissan. Brexit gives us the competitive advantage in the UK and outside," going on to say that the deal will protect 75,000 jobs in the UK. Almost all models built at Sunderland - which makes the Juke, Qashqai and electric Leaf - meet "rules of origin" requirements limiting what level of content has to come from the EU to avoid tariffs. The positive investment news from Nissan means battery production will be brought to Britain, creating jobs. Ashwani Gupta also said that this process "will take a few months" but hailed it as an 'opportunity' for the company and its electric car output. SNP embrace Brexit freeport opportunity in screeching U-turn: The SNP have embarked on a "humiliating climbdown" after signing up to the UK's Brexit freeports plan just weeks after it was condemned by party activists. The SNP repeatedly criticised the plans for at least seven Singapore-style ports in England and had refused calls to implement them north of the border. Now, in a screeching U-turn, the SNP will look to rebrand the Brexit plans as 'Greenports' with Scotland's focus being on net zero transition. Several ports in Scotland have expressed an interest in gaining freeport status including Cromarty, Aberdeen and Dundee.Maurice Golden, economy spokesman for the Scottish Tories, said: "This is a humiliating climbdown for the SNP. Just a few months ago, Ivan McKee was claiming that freeports are a 'shiny squirrel' and the SNP conference backed a motion slamming them." Mr McKee now says the UK plan will be adapted for a 'Scottish context'. Barnier warns of risk of more Brexits: Michel Barnier has warned of the risk of more 'Brexits' as he said there was still "anger" towards Brussels in many regions of Europe and urged supporters to explain the European project. He said that Brexit had exposed the dangers and consequences of leaving the bloc, effectively admitting that Brussels had set out to make an example of the UK whilst holding other nations hostage inside the EU. "We have to be vigilant because it is always a risk for the future," Barnier said. "This risk can be combated by the proof that it is clearly a better situation to be inside the EU than outside."The Frenchman also said he had noted British plans to diverge from EU rules such as the Working Time Directive after Brexit. "We are not surprised because we are not naive," he said. The important thing for the EU was that Britain's new found regulatory freedom did not become "a tool for dumping against us."Barnier went on to issue a warning that if Britain were to gain an unfair advantage over the EU then the bloc would use remedial measures in the trade deal.EU threaten UK with repercussions in diplomatic row: In a continuation of the 'diplomatic row' story, the BBC have given their take on it, publishing an article titled 'UK accused of petty behaviour in EU diplomatic row' in which they criticise the UK's decision not to recognise the EU as a nation state. The BBC also say that EU sources have said that diplomacy is based on reciprocity, meaning there could be repercussions for the UK's ambassador in Brussels. It's important to note that the UK is not the only country to take this view and even the US has flip-flopped in the past over granting EU ambassadors full status. Retailers could abandon returned goods: According to the BBC, "UK retailers could abandon goods EU customers want to return, with some even thinking of burning them because it is cheaper than bringing them home". They were told that UK High Street and luxury brands have a mounting volume of goods stuck with courier services but also said none of the retailers would comment on the problem. The government said: "We have encouraged companies new to dealing with customs declarations to appoint a specialist to deal with import and export declarations on their behalf - and we made more than £80m available to expand the capacity of the customs agents market.""Most businesses use a specialist such as a customs broker, freight forwarder or fast parcel operator to deal with this. The government will continue to work closely with businesses to ensure they are able to trade effectively under the new rules."For the latest news and developments throughout the day, please do follow @GlobalVision_UK on Twitter. Thanks for reading, and enjoy the rest of your day.

Too true Scruff, theres nothing better in spending money wisely & making it work for people aat a grass roots level. I've certainly got more faith in allowing individuals to make those decisions at a local level than I have in any government taxation and redistribution. The wastefulness of government & particularly left leaning governments is unforgivable. I'm fortunate enough to have many generous customers who have supported me over the years, and I get pleasure from supporting the people who I can rely on to provide me with their services.

I could have a bash at assessing your abilities if i could see any. They are difficult to isolate if, indeed, any exist at all.

The only characteristic i've noticed of yours minny, which could be an ability, is your apparent aim to be the most obnoxious person on social media.

By-the-way, I bought his book 'The Planets' to read over Christmas. It is well written. When COVID is over I will pay to go to one of his shows/lectures.

Pierre

But you seem to think you can assess my ability on little basis to do so?

At the end-of-the-day Cox IS a professor and I have faith in the system that awarded him with such. It isn't just a 'layman's opinion' as you may view it.

'Brexit: the EU Ambassador to the UK is not happy?'

Most people would be ecstatic with the pay package that he must be on.
