05/1/2021 23:37 | Don't tell the BBC ....rather spoils their script of running Boris/UK down and bigging up the EU. We were supposed to be 'bottom of the class' in whole of Europe in terms of our handling of COVID.....lol. Don't expect retractions or apologies though. | cheshire pete

05/1/2021 23:21 | Did anyone pick op on this earlier? Looks like the EU really isn't perfect. Europe's vaccine blunders threaten the entire EU project The European vaccination fiasco has mushroomed into a larger danger for the EU project itself. Brussels acquired powers beyond its competence. Nothing before has exposed so clearly why the nation-state is the proper fulcrum of government. This episode is less obviously threatening than the post-Lehman civil war between eurozone creditors and debtors, a clash of interests that has been papered over for the time being. But it may nevertheless be just as treacherous in different ways. In a matter Read in The Telegraph: | cheshire pete

05/1/2021 20:05 | Neverendum says Whitless.. Restrictions may need to be brought in next winter, Chris Whitty warns Georgina Hayes Gareth Davies 5 JANUARY 2021 • 7:24PM More than a million people in England are currently infected with Covid-19, latest figures show, as the UK reported a record 60,916 new cases today. Speaking on the first day of England's third national lockdown, Professor Chris Whitty, the country's chief medical officer, warned that some restrictions may have to be brought back into place next winter to control the virus. England's top medic warned that people need to be aware the virus will not "disappear with spring", but that if people stick to the rules "really strongly" and at the same time the NHS is vaccinating "as fast as it can", then the lockdown could be "enough". He said: "If we did not do all the things all of us must now do, if people don't take the stay at home seriously, the risk at this point in time, in the middle of winter with this new variant, is extraordinarily high." Prof Whitty said that the risk level will gradually decrease over time with measures being "lifted by degrees possibly at different rates in different parts of the country, we'll have to see". "We'll then get over time to a point where people say this level of risk is something society is prepared to tolerate and lift right down to almost no restrictions at all," he added. "We might have to bring in a few in next winter for example, that's possible, because winter will benefit the virus." | maxk
05/1/2021 20:04 | Waitrose, I believe, is a part of John Lewis. The staff are always going to be more polite and helpful. They are partners in the business. However, the vast majority of supermarket products are merely labels on stuff that is actually made by eg: Northern Foods in Leeds. Even Heinz only make baked beans and spaghetti in tomato sauce. The rest is contracted out. Personally, I will not use Aldi/Lidl. German companies that wrap themselves in the Union flag do not attract me. | joestalin
05/1/2021 19:37 | Many years ago Tesco was criticised for its expansion into many other countries. It was widely reported that should the sales expansion slow the fall out would be like a set of dominos - The Tesco is but an eg. There is a limit to the market growth. And the high st is seeing this. There should have been but there never was an ability to justify Bus Rates - nobody rock the boat or out - just like the Audit commission But one never knows how the never know scientists who have limited real life can ever dictate through theorums that anything other than 365k ppl will die each yr over 80- but ascribe a number to Sars 2 even though they have but reported detail. reported detail is - that is what was said by ? | jl5006
