Thats true Crazi. I am invested in some stocks where there has not been a post for nearly a month. When there is one it is invariably on topic but in between there is obviously zero interest. Is that better? Personally I like a bit of banter. I think you also get to know the posters a little bit - who talks sense and who is just full of it. I find the different personalities interesting. Some seem to have nil sense of humour which is fine. Some I find incredibly witty. One guy has no sense of humour whatsoever but his insight into the stock is second to none. Where he gets his info and data from I cant find anywhere but hes incredible. Others post 'news' that is generally classed as general knowledge. Its all part of the interest to me - it is my hobby - or at least one of them. I have always thought that it would be interesting for there to be some sort of posters conventin and meet the people behind the blog names. Bet there would be some surprises

The thing is many of these top civil servants are tremendous quents the majority have had cosseted lifes and are basically institutionalised. When a pragmatic self starter like Priti Patel comes along who wants to get things done, they fall to bits quicker than one of Mervs suits & seek the solice of their civil servant bed fellows.

Donald Trump has had a fresh setback in his bid to overturn his loss in the US election as Michigan lawmakers indicated they would not seek to undo Joe Biden's projected win in the state.

Two Republican legislators pledged to follow "normal process" in validating the vote after a White House meeting.

Meanwhile Ken Clarke - a former home secretary - said he was "troubled" by the departure of Sir Alex Allan, whom he described as "very impressive".

Lord Clarke told Times Radio there was a widely-held assumption "that if an investigation was taken this far, and if anyone was found to have broken the ministerial code", they would step down.

"It's a very awkward situation and I'm troubled by it," he said.

Damanko, you are right but when a share goes through long periods of sod all doing a it of idle chit chat about current things keeps the board alive dont you think?
As Scruff says sometimes insightful politicall stuff can be relevant to a decision you may be trying to make.

There have been some very divisive events in recent years which are being reflected in some of the threads.

There are still many gems around - you just need to find them.

I would agree with much of what you say damanko, but, why not just use the filter button?

I filtered porty many moons ago and my filter list is a long one. There are some threads where there can be 20 new posts but I can only see 2 or 3 of them as the rest are filtered. It's the best function on ADVFN in my opinion. There are some real nasties on ADVFN, but, some really nice and insightful people too, the filter facility separates them out.

One final point, political discussion can be very relevant to your investments, in which case I don't mind it to be honest.

I f we need to keep spending 0.7% gdp on overseas aid because it projects soft power, we did we hand a large amount of it over (because we couldn't find enough causes to spend 0.7%) to the EU to spend on overseas aid with EU branding on it?

Orson Wedgwood21 Nov 2020 8:42AMCut up my conservative membership card in May, joined the Reform party a couple of weeks ago and give them £25 a month. I will campaign against the Tory party for the rest of my life. Now that Corbyn is gone, I am not worried about Labour. Johnson has proven to be one of the Davos crowd and is happy to impliment the Great Reset which will see the majority experience grinding poverty. You're done Boris, and as for Rishi 10 homes Sunak, he is no saviour of the Tories. By goosing house prices he has betrayed everyone under 45.... Daily Telegraph
