Got CoD masks. Fun going into shops looking like we are going to rob the place.Would rather wear a mask than not. If it stops me potentially passing CV19 on to someone in the vulnerable category it is worth it.

@grahamite2. Totally. Feel safer with everyone wearing a mask and also it removes the worry about looking the odd one out.
As for Lloyds: Results due and IMHO a move upwards.

Fair enough Tygarreg - clearly neither of us was trying to pick a fight!

My instinct is that these new regulations will be quite a strong deterrent to going to the shops, but my contact in retail says, no, quite the contrary, it will encourage people because they feel safer. We really are struggling through a pea-souper here.

Mask wearing with Lindsey & Dr John Campbell.

Evidence of aerolisation of virus....in air for up to 3 hours.
Wearing a mask is common sense.

.....Speaking at a press briefing in Beijing.......
Zhao noted.... China will "closely watch" the process of making the decision
adding
"it could also serve as a touchstone of a market trend in the UK after Brexit" and show whether is safe for Chinese companies to maintain investments in the United Kingdom.

"Logic tells me that wearing a mask, which is near as damn it useless, gives a false sense of security and will lead folk to get closer to others than they should"

Actually Logic would tell you that viruses spread by people sneezing or coughing their virus out into the air around them...

A mask would cut this considerably if not completely depending on type of mask worn.

So your logic in this regard is holed by basic facts

"'Droplets', the most lethal, are considered to be 5 microns wide; the human hair is 60-120 microns wide"

Once again, you need to wear the correct mask. But any mask is better than no mask.

"Then there's still the issue of eyes, and they're going to be of greater vulnerability when folk get even closer"

Indeed.Glasses or better still, goggles that seal reduce/prevent this vulnerability
respectively.

"Then there's the evidence that in the Far East, face coverings didn't stop the spread of seasonal 'flu"

What evidence? Link please.

because what the evidence does show is that nations that implemented mask wearing fast, off the bat, have far lower infection rates and deaths than those that did not.

Indisputable fact.

You are peddling tripe Poikka

The WHO, CDC and other bureaucracies initially failed to quickly realize that the benefits of masks compound, simply because two people are wearing them and you have to look at the interaction.

You have a very short memory.

Look at the death rate and death total versus other European countries.

Boris and Cummings are a disaster for this country.

Wasn't 20,000 deaths supposed to be a "good outcome".

LOL!

Hi Geaham if you go back through the thread you will see I first responded to Fred's clown accusation and suggested the reason for a 10 day delay might be to stock shops and give the public a chance to buy. For sure those with masks already can cooperate immediately. If you read my other post to both of you but mainly Fred, you will see it was mainly about the futility of running from this virus and my only referral to clowns was to suggest that Fred thought of the bigger picture before calling the govt clowns! Furthermore, I think this whole mask thing is to try and calm the public into getting out rather than the real spreader which is touching things! It's a bit like calming airline passengers into thinking that ditching in the ocean will have a good outcome as you walk onto the wings and get in your life craft!

Could those supporting compulsory wearing of face masks say whether they think we should be forced to wear them every winter to prevent flu deaths? An average of 17,000 die every year in England from flu. That’s a lot of potential saved lives. So yes or no? If not, why not?

Labour:

"Labour said the mixed messages demonstrated the government's indecision during the pandemic, and ministers had to explain the "further delay".

"The government has been slow and muddled again," shadow health secretary Jonathan Ashworth said.

He added that "many will ask why yet again have ministers been slow in making a decision in this pandemic"."

No mixed messages, masks on public transport now changed to crowded indoor spaces due to WHO changing advice.

Not slow and clear as day, just following WHO advice.

But sounds good to those incapable of understanding.

Tygarreg, your complete misunderstanding of what freddie and I wrote is almost impressive.

Freddie wasn't arguing for or against them - he was making a point of logic. Either they are a good thing or they're not. If they are a good thing they should be made compulsory forthwith, not at some point in the future.

You got me even more wrong. I was arguing against them, for Pete's sake!

Perhaps you should think twice before calling other people clowns.
