"And I intend to draw a line under the matter."

Sorry Boris. You are not God. You don't decide these things.

You can draw a line under anything you like it will make no difference to what the real powers think. Here is a clue: you are not one of them. :)

Now that the Leftists' / Remoaners' attempt to undermine Boris through attacking Cummings has failed they'll have to come up with something else as a last ditch attempt to force an extension to the transition period. See what wheeze transpires.
Boris brilliant in way he supported Cummings.

The next election will be lost if Mr Cummings is stabbed in the back by Conservatives. Reason.Mr Cummings has done the right thing and tried to protect many many lives. He is the moral compass of the Conservative Party, so many have tried to destroy. Destroy the moral compass of any party or group or people, then that party will not be worth spitting on. Certainly voters will not vote for a morally bankrupt party. Why do you think The Left are tearing their hair out to remove first Cummings and then Boris. The Conservative Party so far have tried to do the right thing. So love CummingsLove Boris.Magnificent HEROES

Thank you Mr Cummings. You were determined to do the right thing by following the science. Perhaps the the science was misleading. Imperial seem to have used questionable methodology. Perhaps they wanted to lead astray so as to cause mayhem. But Mr Cummings did the right thing by following the science. Probably that science was wrong but that does not mean Cummings and the government were wrong. To be persecuted for doing the right thing is appalling and dangerous.Thank you Mr Cummings. It seems many wanted the government to do the wrong thing. For the future question the role of WHO and have a more balanced range of scientific advice.Cummings been amazingly strong. Family having casualty and Boris Johnson also a near victim. These are Real HEROES.Thank you

vaccines will be the same...but you know..it does keep the peasant class worried and in their place.

where are the angry young people? Where are the demos planned for when it is all over..?where are the young people and the elderly tearing OFCOM limb from limb?

where are the opinion polls? and where are the flu statistics?

the answer to the last two rhetoricals is ...there aint any!

Or perhaps,as I always suspected,it will NEVER be all over.

Peter Hawkes28 May 2020 7:16PMThe Germans have a lot to answer for (yet again!). For decades now, they have used the EU for their political and economic purposes, and in the process have destroyed various Southern economies. The Euro is nothing but a platform for the German economy, (thanks to the original DM exchange rate), and because it is a "zero sum" game between all the Euro economies, the weaker economies continually lose out whilst the strong just get stronger. So much for unity etc.I sincerely hope I live long enough to see the whole house of cards tumble ...1LikeReplyMark Lucas28 May 2020 7:25PMPeter, I agree with you.I found "EURO TRAGEDY, A drama in nine acts" by Ashoka Mody very interesting and I recommend it. Its academic, so you can download the PDF for free, and the 22 page introduction gives as much as I can take in. Seems honest and well balanced. The title says it all.Basically the strong get stronger and the weak get weaker...Doesn't look good for the rest of the Euro caged animals....

Mike Anson28 May 2020 7:29PMI have come in time to realise the utter contradiction in the EU that will ultimately end it its demise. For all the talk of the EU superstate with an EU army, shared debt and taxation, shared treasury, single currency, EU foreign policy etc; the things that made me vote to leave (amongst others); that Brussels and the federalists all support and inch every closer to the EU superstate led by the French.  Germany does not support it at all.Germany loves the EU, the single market has worked out brilliantly for them, they are the worlds largest exporter and have a huge captive market next door to consume their array of exports, ignoring the economic pain that causes Southern Europe. It pays lip service to the Federalists but every time stops short, pays the minimum and says nein to things like shared debt.Germany wants its cake but is unwilling to pay for the consequences as the EUs largest and richest economy.  Ultimately it will simply not pay the bills for federalism.Something sooner or later will break.7LikeReplyMark Oxley28 May 2020 7:41PM@Mike Anson We broke first!

Sunderland plant safe after Nissan closes Spanish factoryJapanese giant's decision to focus European production in the UK sparks protests by workers in Barcelona who stand to lose their jobsByAlan Tovey, INDUSTRY EDITOR28 May 2020 • 11:10amThe future of Nissan's Sunderland plant looks to be secure for years to come after the Japanese company announced its Spanish factory will shut to save costs.Sunderland will become Nissan's European manufacturing hub as a result - making it highly likely to stay open and protecting 6,000 workers, along with another 27,000 jobs in the supply chain.Shutting the Barcelona plant, which has 3,000 staff, along with two smaller factories nearby, could mean production of some models is moved to the UK. The decision sparked street protests in the Spanish city.Production in Barcelona ground to a halt at the start of this month when some staff went on strike after plans to cut a fifth of the workforce were announced.Spanish foreign minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya said: "We regret this decision by Nissan ... despite the enormous efforts by the government to keep the business going."Despite the closure, Nissan said Europe remains "important" to the manufacturer.htTps://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2020/05/28/sunderland-plant-safe-nissan-closes-spanish-factory/

How would the Left have felt about a pro-Dominic Cummings diatribe from Emily Maitlis?

The partisan applause for the BBC presenter's monologue unwittingly strengthens the case for a root-and-branch review of the BBC

TOM HARRIS
28 May 2020 • 1:30pm

No wonder there was such outrage! Never in the corporation’s history had a flagship news programme been kicked off with such a partisan, partial monologue. “Dominic Cummings put his family first, and which of us can honestly say we would do any different? Those calling for his sacking are largely still fighting the 2016 EU referendum and have seen a chance to take revenge on the mastermind of Vote Leave’s victory. The prime minister is right to stand by him.”

Of course, that’s not what Emily Maitlis said as Tuesday night’s Newsnight began.

But all those journalist colleagues and opposition MPs now rushing to defend her and to express disgust at the BBC’s decision to replace her with an alternative presenter the following evening, should carefully consider how they would have reacted had she defended, instead of pilloried, the prime minister’s most senior adviser....
