08/3/2020 10:28 | Leicester/Derby/Birm These cities each have a run down area and an executive area. The professional classes and the wealthy living in these areas live in beautiful expensive properties on the fringes of each city. It always amazes me how geographically close (say) the most exclusive Solihull millionaire mansion on the fringes of Birmingham is to the most dreadful run down crime ridden area of Birmingham. 3 miles at most. Parts of London are even more extreme. Chelsea and Kensington, from slum to mansion. | careful

08/3/2020 09:35 | 5XY,Same for doctors, We only train 7k/yr but now recruit 9k from overseas. Notwithstanding the importance of foreign doctors to the the NHS it has to be said that the numbers of claims for negligence are disproportionately high & they dont stay for very long. My lads GF qualified on Wednesday probably cost 250k & took her 10yrs inc post grad degree yet we import doctors from India who spend 4 years studying medicine afterschool! Its madness 25% of student costs should be waived on qualifying with further reductions at 5/10 & 15 yrs service it would encourage more home grown talent to stay longer & reduce costly overseas recruitment. On Lorry drivers, we pay the British drivers benefits because they've been displaced by Poles & Lithuanians & now were paying the benefits of the Poles & Lithuanians because they've been displaced by the Romainians who are soon to be displaced by the Syrians & Iraqis. In less than 10 years I dont expect to see a single lorry on the road, all deliveries will be piled high on Honda 50's because only the chinese & vietnamese will be working, everyone else will be on benefits. | utrickytrees

Officials at the white-collar crime agency have begun interviewing witnesses over claims Angel Group, which owned properties including an office block at Canary Wharf, London, was deliberately pushed into administration, The Telegraph has learnt. The SFO has not launched a formal criminal investigation but is weighing one up after receiving a referral. It is understood the agency is conducting a “scoping exercise” and received details of possible leads from the Financial Conduct Authority. | maxk
08/3/2020 09:24 | Lloyds Bank: the anatomy of a scandal Lloyds continues to be plagued by allegations it mistreated businesses as it scrambled to survive after the financial crisis By Michael O'Dwyer 8 March 2020 • 5:00am Allegations over Lloyds’ treatment of customers after the financial crisis have cast a long shadow over the Black Horse The financial crisis isn’t over for Lloyds Bank. Profits have returned, the bailout has ended and the state has sold its shares. But the shadow cast by allegations that the bank ruthlessly mistreated customers as it scrambled for survival still hangs over it. Avon and Somerset Police launched a fresh investigation last month into allegations of fraud in the bank’s Bristol unit, described by one source as a “mortuary&rdqu More than a hundred former customers are believed to be in the early stages of pursuing a settlement with the bank over historic grievances. Now the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) is understood to be assessing allegations that Lloyds, with KPMG and other advisers, cynically destroyed the property empire of former client Julia Davey, The Telegraph can reveal.... | maxk
08/3/2020 07:59 | Couch potatoes... Won't shop in any of the discount retailers cos don't fancy fighting through cardboard boxes and people covered in tattoos. Sooner pay a bit more, go upmarket and enjoy the shopping experience. We're being told now that the younger generation aren't interested in material things preferring instead 'life experience' type pursuits such as video games lol. | diku
