30/12/2019 17:16 | Venture capital activity in the UK hit record highs in 2019 as British investors closed £3.9bn in new funds, eyeing opportunities in the technology sector, new data shows.Fundraising for venture capital investors, who target start-ups and high-growth technology companies, surged from £2.6bn in 2018, according to data compiled for the Telegraph by analyst firm PitchBook. A total of 29 new funds closed in the UK this year despite market uncertainty. The growing appetite for UK start-ups in 2019 stood out against the US and Europe, where venture capital fundraising waned from decade-highs in 2018Dave Taylor 30 Dec 2019 1:33PMRight, its a work in progress..£3.9bn is peanuts and nothing to write home about. We need to increase that now to at least £15bn per year and close the gap with the US. And that should be very doable as the tech industry grows in the UK. Daily Telegraph | ![]() xxxxxy

30/12/2019 17:01 | cm44,yes your post certainly highlights what many believe that as a country, in certain areas our priorities are all wrong. Like the NHS the National benefits system should indeed be that National & not Internationl. Unfortunately we will be paying the price for our ill fated participation in the EU project for a few years to come, Also if some of the other countries in the union acted with a bit more fiscal responsibility there might be more money to go round. I hope your prospects improve in the new year. | utrickytrees
30/12/2019 17:00 | Stephen Putt 29 Dec 2019 9:08AMWill the UK still exist by the end of 2020?Lesly Chung 29 Dec 2019 11:31AM@Stephen Putt Will the EU exist in 2020? Spain and Poland objecting to Brussels interference.Virtual Civil War in France.Italians waking up to how their electoral system was manipulated. If Britain bothers to negotiate with the EU at all if they carry on as before, more and more countries are going to realise how Brussels impinges on their lives to their detriment. Then there is the curse that is the Euro. | ![]() xxxxxy

30/12/2019 16:54 | Alec Andrews 29 Dec 2019 10:13AM" Financial services are Britain's biggest single export to the EU. Lose that market and the City, a dynamo of tax generation, will emerge a diminished force..."And don't think that the financial wizards of Europe can't see this. It's run by a relatively few wonks in the City and since "money" is their motive they can easily be bribed to move to Europe.Andrew Rossiter 29 Dec 2019 10:24AMThat just won't happen. Hardly any jobs have moved to the continent as people want to live in London and they don't want to walk past burning cars in Paris or live in small cities like Frankfurt - the equivalent of moving to BirminghamMary Rob 29 Dec 2019 1:00PM@Alec Andrews yes. All go to strike ridden Paris. The EU has bankrupted most of the others in their club. Away from the EU Hong Kong is in extreme trouble. I suppose New York would be okay. But you are too pessimistic. We will survive with dignity. | ![]() xxxxxy
